First time posting....questions
I'm 10 days post op. I had an open RYN. I'm feeling pretty good and walking 20 minutes daily so far.
I know that I am not getting enough fluids daily, but can't seem to get anymore down. Even though I'm taking small sips (all the time) it seems that I feel like all I'm getting down is air and then I feel the need to burp and nothing is there. Which then leads to feeling like I need to vomit.
I'm also interested in ideas of what else to eat. I'm suppose to be on full liquids for three whole weeks (another 11 days). I could cry at the sight of soup and broth. I am eating mashed potatoes. Any other ideas??
Thanks!! Jenni
Hi Jenni and congrats on your surgery!! I am not allowed to eat mashed potatoes yet, but am also on full liquids. My doctor advanced me a bit to include cottage cheese, egg, and toast (has to be toast. regular bread expands in your pouch and toast does not). I eat Fat free cottage cheese for breakfast, it's super high in protein. I eat sugar free pudding or low carb smooth yogurt for lunch and 1 egg and 1/2 a peice of toast for dinner (so I can sit at the table with my family and actually feel like I am eating too). You can have SF popsicles, sf jello, low sodium vegetable juice, and cream of rice and wheat cereals as well. I drink about 40 oz of crystal light and 20 ozs of water to keep from getting bored. All of your food while on full liquids adds to your water total for the day.
Give it time. I think it took me until just a week ago (two weeks post op) to get in 64 ozs everyday of liquids. Your protein shakes count too! I bet you are getting in more than you think ;)

Jello
Popsicles or Pop-Ice
Suck on ice chips
I also drink the Soup At Hand brand of soups. They are a little thicker, but still puree, and get you both nutrition and liquid.
Also, try making some smoothies in your blender. You can get liquid, yogurt, fruit and protein powder all in one drink (if you can tolerate all of the above).
I am 3.5 weeks post-op and I KNOW I'm not getting enough liquids...I can't seem to drink anymore...it's making me crazy. I have 2 protein shakes a day and try and drink as much as I can but once I've eaten anything I am too full to drink. I have tried tuna and it was fine (with a little lite mayo) and a saltine or two but by the time I eat that I can't even consider drinking anything it leaves me full for hours. I always have a bottle of water on my desk during the day and try and drink as much as I can but I'm not sure how much is really enough...I haven't lost a pound in about a week now but I know I am losing inches...something has to give somewhere! (at least I hope so) ...
just drink as much as you can ... I'm sure you're getting enough...have you tried the yogurts yet? I happen to like yogurt so that was pretty easy on me and it counts as liquid...go for it! just make sure it's sugar free Linda
Hi Jenni, I know on full liquids you can also puree peaches or other fruits on light syrup or in natrural juice and add to you cottage cheese. My DR moved me to a soft diet already which has a lot more options. I also have a problem with the fluids. I don't like anything with splenda in it and water is getting boring, i do put a little lemon in my water which helps some.
Good Luck!
