What do I do for gas???
I am three days out and I feel like a huge balloon. I am very careful when I drink not to gulp in too much air, but I still have so much gas. It's to the point that I don't even feel like drinking anything. I am so afraid of getting dehydrated. I just left the hospital yesterday. And I had an IV until right after I left. I have walked and belched and let it come out every way I know how but it is still there. Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Thanks and God's grace to you all! Jacinda
Hi Jacinda: I had my surgery on 9/27 and still have lots of gas. The only thing that has seemed to help me is walking. I've been burping and tooting and I still have gas. I am hoping that it will work its way out soon. I have also been taking Malox chewable tablets. They seem to help some but like you, I still feel like a very large balloon. I have read that it can take up to over a week for the gas to dissipate. Hopefully both of us will be a little less "gassy" soon. I hope you feel better and would love to know if you come up with or hear of any great solutions. Thanks. Melanie
Thanks Melanie. I havent tried Malox yet. I hope it does go away by a week. I think I could make it a week. Whenever I start feeling bad, I begin wondering if this is how it is going to be for the rest of my life. I can't believe Im actually up walking to get rid of gas at 4:30 in the morning! But at this point, I will do ANYTHING to get rid of this feeling. I am praying for both of us!
It might be your intestines "waking up" also. There's a point when you go from having hypoactive bowel sounds to hyperactive... So everything starts grumbling around. I think mine was about the fourth or fifth night. Holy crap - it woke me up it was so bad! It did pass though and within another day or two, everything was normal. Unfortunately, this is one of the things that seems to greatly vary between people.
Hang in there and walk - chances are it'll get better soon.

I to have gas and had surgery on 9/27. Today feels 100% better than yestarday, but still have it bad. I move ---especially if I start to feel bad. The worst you feel the more you need to move and stretch. Try putting hand over your head and arching your back outward. It has helped me a little.
ggod luck

Assuming you had lap, remember they blow you up like a balloon for the surgery, so you have gas because they pumped it into you. Takes time for that gas to go completely away. Best thing to do is move move move .
I used to just pace around my house to get rid of it, now I walk around my building.

Jacinda,
I feel for you!! I had the same problem.
Gas X Chewables are great...take 2!!!
Also at night, a trick I learned from a midwife...laying on your left side helps you digest and release gas better. Even better than that is laying on your left side with a pillow between your legs. Make sure your upper torso is leaning forward a bit, not on your back. I do this and my husband is complaining and laughing at me in the morning because I have deflated all night long!! LOL But I sure do feel better!!!
Good Luck!!
