How to get protein on liquid diet??
ok, now that I'm getting a handle on this... AND I'm still on full liquids for another week!... How the heck do you get 60 grams of protein in when you're on liquids?? Even if I do protein shakes for 2 meals, thats less than 40 grams (sometimes far less, depending on the drink). And most cream-based soup has minimal protein! (I'm working on adding it w/unflavored protein powder, havent gotten it yet) Any other ideas?? Thanks in advance!

Profect by Protica (www.protica.com): 2.7 liquid ounces (yes TWO point SEVEN), 25 grams of protien; 100 calories.
It gets me over the "protein hump" daily. Kind of pricey but worth it.
Good luck, Melanie!

i am 6 days post-op and having a hard time with this as well. I've not been able to find any protein that doesn't taste awful. Even the "unflavored" protein I bought tastes like baby sick to me. I guess I need to keep experimenting and trying different kinds. I'm not sure what brand I have now, but I will NEVER be buying it again.
Ok, so I've got lots more options. I bought some Isopure from GNC in 5 flavors, tried the chocolate/peanut butter swirl, it was pretty good! Just got my delivery from bariatriceating.com, they have a Sample Pack of allll different protein powders for $25. I figure its a good deal, because I don't have to buy a big tub of it if I don't like the flavor! And if they taste as good as they smell, I'll be a happy camper!!! That covers only one or two meals a day tho, can't live on protein drinks forever!
... STILL haven't found an UNflavored protein powder that I can add to soups, etc! Went to Trader Joe's, Safeway, GNC, and all of the ones from the website are flavored too. I'll have to keep looking. Cant WAIT to start eating again... hard to believe I'm looking forward to cottage cheese & scrambled eggs! I promised hubby I'd start cooking again this week... that will just add to the torture! *grin* No, I'll be fine... gotta learn to eat what works for me, and still make regular meals for him. After a couple weeks, I can eat what he eats, just LESS!!
Thanks for your suggestions... and, as always, your support!!

Hi Mel,
I went to a GNC type place (Lindberg Nutrition) and tried ALL of their "non-flavored" whey proteins, including the liquid kind. They were all pretty heinous in that you could strongly taste the protein itself. There is a brand on the market called 100% Any Whey Protein that you can add to soups. It is "virtually tasteless" in that you still can taste the protein but it doesn't over power your foods like the unflavored brands do. At my nutrition store it retailed for $ 23.96 but I saw it on www.bariatricadvantage.com for only 13.95. So I am thinking it may be cheaper online as opposed to going to get it at a store.
I hope that little bit of insight helps!
