This is my first time posting but have decided that I can not make this journey alone and would love any words of wisdom or advice. I am currently on day 4 of my pre op liquid diet (it is not easy for me) and am scheduled to have surgery on 9/27. I am so scattered right now and can only seem to think about sticking to my liquid diet and having my surgery. Did anyone else just seem a little out of it prior to their upcoming surgery? Thank you to everyone out there who has been and or continues to share their stories. It has definately helped me make it this far.

Melanie, I don't think your crazy, the week before surgery i had to do the clear liquids and protien shakes, I could barely think!! I went to work everyday and i am sure that I got nothing done. i ran to poo everytime I turned around, finally one day I said that is it I am going home to poo in my own bathroom...lol I think my co workers were happy about that also.. I journaled alot during that time just to try and put my thoughts somewhere else instead of running around in my head. Now that I am post op I still think about what I am putting in my mouth. However, I am able to do other things I just carry my water bottle with me wherever I go. Hang in there grab all the support you can, my daughter and hubby did the clear liquids and protien shakes with me....that was a riot... Journal!! write it all down all the things you feel.... I sure learned where my relationship with food was right before surgery... Well, I will see you on the loosing side Debbie

Hi Melanie - I felt nutsy about a month and half ago...I could not concentrate on my work, or think about anything except the surgery. I lived on OH, I re-read all the books I'd read repeatedly already, etc. I was totally obsessed. Then I guess I short-circuite (mercifully) and was able to focus on other things for a while...had a very tough period at work and needed to get it together. Now I'm a week away, and I'm starting to think about it more again. I only have a 48 hour liquid diet, so don't know about the struggles you face with that part. But no doubt we go through being able to think of nothing else...and I'm willing to bet that's totally normal! Wishing you well, Mary Mc

I know just how you feel. the days before surgery were so bad! I thought i would die. i had to drink that mag citrate stuff 3 times (30oz. )before it finally stayed down. I had to stop 3 times on the way to the hospital to throw-up but when i got there they gave me meds and all was fine. i call truly say the surgery and recovery was not as bad as the days before surgery. Hang in there, I'll be praying for you Anna in ALABAMA

Hi Melanie! My RNY was one week ago today. Today was a good day. The pre-op diet was very rough. My Dr. required it for 3 weeks pre-op AND if I came back in before surgery without having lost the required amount of weight, my surgery would have been cancelled! Not only was I spacy, but I obsessed about not losing the eight pounds required, and ended up cheating anyway. "Luckily", I lost my eight pounds and made it through surgery. I think before surgery I was in a surreal mind-numbing zone. Now, the reality of not eating as usual is sooo strange. I did overeat (Ha!...."overeat" on liquids.....) a couple of times this past week and paid for it. Now I know better, or at least am learning! It really is hard to change your brain after years of programming! I ate for comfort, of course. You will make it! I am new to these message boards and find them so helpful. I wish I had reached out pre-op like you are now doing. Anyway, you will do GREAT! I can't wait to hear how things are going! Your pal on the journey.......Donna

Hey everyone! My surgery is on Monday, the 26th. I guess I am lucky because I don't have to be on a liquid diet pre-op. I do have to do the bowel prep--which i'm not looking forward to--but i know it is a necessary step. I, like most of you, am obsessed with the surgery and think about it for the best part of each day. It's hard to concentrate on other things---my mind jumps right back to the surgery, the prep, the post-op experience, etc. I hope we all do well and I am so looking forward to the first day of the rest of my life! May God bless you during and after your surgery---
