ON THE LIQUID DIET

I am into my third day of the liquid diet-- I am not exactly hungry --but I feel very odd. I think that I am suffering from a mental hunger-- not physical! I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to stay away from food for two weeks--But then I realized that my friend (who had her surgery in June) was able to stay on the diet for the whole two weeks --and I know that It can be done! I just wish that there weren't quite so many food commercials on television! I also wish that the protein drinks (Medifast and/or Carnation Instant breakfast) tasted a little better. Sugar free jello and Sugar free popsicles are also NOT favorites of mine! Well, I know that I have to reduce the size of my liver --in order to make the operation easier for me and for my surgeon. --so I will hang in there!

Hang in there Marian! Your surgery is one day before mine and I see that you are also a WLS "lightweight" like me. My BMI is 37.4. I just got my date today. So far I havent been told about a preop diet but I won't be surprised if I hear about it next week.

Having this website is making things easier--and I appreciate the messages of encouragement. Yes --a few of my friends have asked why I need the surgery--I have told them that the complications of osteoporosis and arthritis, and the fact that My bones fracture from the weight, is more than enough reason to want to get rid of this weight. Many people don't seem to think that "lightweights" have serious problems--problems that this kind of surgery will address. I tell my friends that if I hadn't benn medically approved by several doctors--including my orthopedic surgeon, the internist, the endocrinologist, and the bariatric surgeon, I wouldn't be able to have the proceedure at all. I wish you God's blessings and I will pray for a good outcome for you too--and by the way--not all surgeons require the two week pre-op diet. My surgeon says that reducing the size of the liver (the pre-op diet does that) makes the surgery easier for him and for me. Well again thanks for the encouragement Marian S.C.

Hey Marian, This actually the first time a happen to go to this website and its really good. So much support for people all over the world. I just had my gastic bypass surgery and that to GOD every thing is doing great, I've lost 15 pounds in 1 1/2 week. I'm on a clear liquid diet as well, and I know what you mean -with all the TV commercials, but just imagine your self looking GOOD in the next few months that's my MOTO.!!! Hi there, I understand COMPLETELY...trust me. I've written some posts regarding this same issue. Just thought I was going to die of starvation or go nuts thinking about it all the time. I was what you call~obesessed with being deprived. I am due for surgery tomorrow and am READY to not feel the hunger as bad. That will be nice, even though I'll be restricted to clear liquids for yet another week and then add only protein drinks the second week out. Believe me, I'm counting down the days. Oct. 5 (soft food stage) will not come soon enough. It's tough, but worth it. Just keep looking ahead, play like you're tough and don't care. People have been eatting McDonald's in front of me, had a birthday party with lots of junk food, the works. I just smile and act like it doesn't bother me-but it does. But it will be worth the pain when I arrive on the other side of surgery tomorrow safe. Take care. Kelly
