Hey there... been told that chewing gum is a BIG no-no because it will block the pouch if you accidentally swallow it.. so will hard candies so you aren't to have them either. I don't know if it's permanant or not, but no gum or candy not even sugar free... WAH! LOL... I'm hooked on breath mints (SF) and can't seem to put one in my mouth knowing that it's gonna pose a threat to my life if I accidentally swallow it. HUGS Rachel

Yes, it really is... I tempted fate the other day and put a mint in my mouth before thinking... I didn't realize till it was gone that it was a no no... gonna have to keep them out of site for a while... fyi: mint is NOT good post op, it BURNS! HUGS Rachel

I was told it is a big no..no. Chewing gum causes you to swallow more air.......which leads to a bloating pouch. Also what the others said....might swallow it! I am now on my 4th day postop lapband...more tired today but still no hunger!

I've got 13 more days to go! But I was told last Sunday at my pre-op nutrition class-that gum is a no-no for the first two weeks out. This nutritionist has been working with bariatric patients for 19 years. And my Dr.,Dr. Chae has been doing these surgeries for 11 years and teaches the procedure to other surgeons. So I have a lot of confidence in them. Hope to keep in contact, have a no comp. surgery and a smooth recovery!
