Heart issues and prior blood clots
Hi everyone. I am hoping to have surgery but am still at the beginning stages. I have been doing TONS of research. One issue I haven't seen discussed is patients who have heart issues prior to surgery. I have been on beta blockers for nearly 10 years to regulate my heart rate. Has this been an issue for anyone else? Does this preclude me from surgery?
I have seen the issue of blood clots discussed on this web site. However, I have not seen a post by anyone who had blood clots before surgery. I had a hystorectomy in 1992 and a blood clot that went to my lung 2 weeks later. I know this makes me at very high risk for blood clots and this is my biggest fear with the surgery.
Any insight on either of these topics would be sooo appreciated. Thanks.
No advice replaces your doctors, I had a mild heart attack 3 years ago at age 46. I dont know if I am on a beta blocker. I am on blood pressure pills and plavix, I have turned diabetic since then. I was given heparin shots every day hospitalized which is a clot preventative. When I was immobile they put legs pumps on me. They will do what they need to do to make you saf ebut they should discuss your special risks and how that related intot he overall occasion
I have been on BP meds for 3 years. 11 days after surgery I am taking one and getting readings like 124/71. The improvment in helath is so immediate its shocking.
