Hello, I just need to complain a little bit, okay? First of all, I am still soooo happy about my upcoming surgery on the 19th of this month. God has really blessed me! But..has anyone else had to go on a liquid fast for 2 weeks before surgery? I do. I started on Monday. The first four days were okay, but as of yesterday, I've been really hungry and feeling sorry for myself. It might be different if I didn't have a family to cook for, but MAN! things smell really good cooking and it drives me crazy!! I try to fill up on protein shakes (3 or 4 a day of Slimfast low-carb) and Crystal Lite, broth, jello...UG. I thought I was going to be sick trying to down the jello yesterday, it's not my favorite thing. The wobbly consistency makes me queezy. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to sound petty or ungrateful~really! I just wanted to know if there was anyone else out there who went through this prior to surgery...I'm hungry! Thanks for listening, Kelly

Hi Kelly, I am lucky I don't have to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks!!!!! It will be worth it. It is ok if you whine a little. I am sure you are also going through many emotions as I am. We have 9 days until our new life. I also Know it will be hard to cook for the family, I am not sure how I am going to do it. Have a great day! Annette

Aww, thank you Annette. You ARE lucky!! True, I am going through many emotions, but JOY is the main one. I only have little nagging worries in the back of my mind that pop up every once in a while, the "what-ifs". I wrote each of my children and my hubby a letter just in case. They don't know it though. Don't want them to worry. On a brighter note, We're gonna get skinny, We're gonna get skinny.. Sorry, I am really psyched about our new lives. Thank God for modern medicine! Since my sis had the same procedure in 2000 and had so much success, I know I can too. Heck, they didn't even give her a leak test way back then! So, I know it's all gonna work out wonderfully for us. Thank you for the words of encouragement. Bless ya, Kelly

You're hilarious. I had to laugh out loud at your comment about your belly! My daughter thought I was going nuts! But it's true, crazy people. I guess fasting is supposed to shrink your stinkin' liver. Stupid liver! Thanks for the smiles, Kelly

Hi Kelly, I am going through the same thing. I am only 5 days until surgery, but this diet is challenging. I have kept my carbs under 20g and if I have to eat something, I make sure it's protein. I don't know when you know that your liver is in ketosis, but I am following the instructions closely. It's a good test for the post-op diet and realizing that my surgery date is almost here! I'm just glad that this is not forever Good luck to you too! Ally

Hi Kelly, I just love to read all the questions on here. It realy makes you think about a lot of things. I am a little worried that I do not have to have a leak test either. I accept the no liquid diet and I am drinking protein dhakes on my own, but I don't have to have any stress test, ultrasounds or leak tests. Just a little worried. I have to leave it in GODS hands. Have a geat day! Annette

Hello again, Annette, that worries me that there won't be a leak test performed on you post-op. Why don't you ask the doctor if they have such a procedure where you will be having your surgery? I mean, how will they know if you have a leak otherwise? Hmmm...just a thought, I'd ask! Good for you drinking to protein shakes, the more the better, I heard-to a certain extent, of course! Ally, so you don't have long either! You say that you are limited to under 20 grams of carbs a day until surgery. Now are you on shakes only or are you eatting meat, cheese or eggs? Yep, this is truly good for us to check our will-power..see what we're made of! I know we'll make it, it'll be tough, but we can kick and scream about it together until we're on the Loosing Side. :bounce: Then we're gonna be sooo happy that we broke all those addictions BEFORE surgery, so it won't be such a huge task afterwards. Listen to me..I'm talking like I'm not the one who STARTED this whine-fest. As far as ketosis..who knows unless you have those fancy little strips. I FEEL like I must be. Good nite you all. It's been really nice chatting back and forth. Kelly

I had to do it for 1 week. My surgery is tomorrow and I am starving. I am even having dreams about stuffing my face with a burger!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!! But REMEMBER that in the end it is all worth it. So whine away all you want. I am so sick of the chicken broth that I made my husband go get me some diet arizona ice tea. Believe it or not that is all I have had along with my protein drink for the last 2 days. I have a friend who had to do it for 2 weeks. She had fainting spells and everything. i hope that does not happen to you!! She mainly filled up on protein drinks. In any case, I feel for you sister. I am suffering with the 1 week I don't even want to think about having to do it for 2. Complaining along with you, Michelle

Hi Michelle~ Thanks for writing. Yay for you!! Tomorrow is the big day. I'm so happy for you, girl. Isn't this cool? I agree, I am so hungry now. I go through spurts when I'm not really hungry...just feeling deprived, but right now, I'm hungry and feeling irritated about that! Well, in about what...4 weeks, maybe you can have a tiny bit if a burger. I have been drinking decaf, s.f. tea and it's not the same as the other, but it will work, I guess. The broth~OH, yuck. I can tolerate it about every other day, one cup, but it's just not great. Mainly, I'm drinking slim-fast around 4 times a day and some water and crystal lite lemonade. Boy! I sure hope I don't faint! That's crazy. I'm just kind of keeping to myself a bit, especially when the family is eatting. I'm too emotional and feel like an idiot crying too easily. Good luck tomorrow, I'll be thinking about ya!!! God Bless ya, Kelly
