surgery date 9/19/05

Here we go! After 2 yrs of turn downs and inexperienced surgeons, I finally found a terrific one. I am very hi risk due to the fact this will be my 4th ? open procedure. I will actually have 3 procedures with the rny. I had a 20 yr old VBG which failed miserably! I was set free when Dr Mc Kinney said it was "bad surgery". I am excited and very prepared. Question? How do you change what you "see" in the mirror and what actually "is" after RNY? Are we allowed fruits or lite fruit juices after OR? What about Whey?

Hi there Deb, We share a rebirthday, too! Yes!!! :bounce: Isn't it exciting? I am going through sooo many emotions right now, but JOY is on the forefront of all of them. We are so lucky we have this chance to turn our lives around. Concerning your question with self-image... My sister is 5 1/2 yrs. post-op, down 180# and looks wonderful, but all she see's is a huge fat woman. It's a mystery to me. She is not skinny, because she started at almost 400#, but she is in a size 20/22 but she continually buys 4X, 26/28, it's weird! Sure, she has some clothes that fit her nicely, but it's a habit I guess. She can only eat like 1/2 a sandwich but to this day still fixes herself a huge plate of food. She hasn't had any type of behavior modification and she doesn't go to any support group, so she still deals with food and weight issues. As far as your fruit question, I'm not sure. Maybe you should check with the Nutrition thread, it may tell ya. I don't go to my Nutrition Class until Thursday. Take care, Kelly

hi Kelly Your sister is making a big mistake. She will stretch out her pouch eventually and either not lose or regain. so, are you a revision? Where are you? even tho she was 400# she should still be losing. Her inability to use portion cpntrlo signals trouble. Maybe you could suggest that she return to her surgeon. I hate to see anyone fail. I am excited to. Finally! Airline seats that fit, theater seats that don't squeeze, turnstiles I can walk face first thru, a pot to sit on that won't break, a bathtub where I am not the cork! joy!!!
