I have been doing great. I have a date (9.27) and BCBS approval. Then I got a call from the sleep study and they need me to come in on Saturday for another study. I am surprised by my reaction. I have been so easy going about everything until this point. I have been working hard and following all the diets and exercise plans. I feel like I am on the verge of a panic attack. I haven't seen a post similar, any one else with this kind of a problem? I know that I can get through it. I am not afraid of the surgery or life change= this one thing has me freaked.
thanks to all

Hiya D. I never ha to have a sleep study because I don't snore or have any sleep apnea symptoms, but my son has had them before for neurological studies (they thought he was having focal seizures). I hope it's nothing serious and that the 27th comes around fast for you!! Wishing you the best of luck,
Beth
They tell me that I have mild signs of sleep apnea too just because I told them that I snore? But they did a sleep test on me and everything was just fine. I wouldn't freak out about it. They probable just want to make sure that the surgery goes okay without any complications. Thats what they told me anyways. Good luck!
You have to understand, I only went for a Sleep Study because my husband told me that I snore. I wanted to rule out sleep apnea, for I never thought, even for a moment, that I would actually have sleep apnea. Guess what ? I have sleep apnea. I had to go back to CMC and sleep with a CPAP and they will do a new study to capture the new results. I have to start wearing this thing to bed now, so my body ( and mind ) will get used to it prior to my surgery. I will need this when coming out of anesthesia. Oh Joy ! I don't think I can stand the excitement.
I survived another overnight stay at CMC. The accomodations are quite lovely. Sleeping with a CPAP on my face?
Well, that's a different story. This time, my sleep technician was Dave. He was most kind and very patient. I geared up with all the usual wires and electrodes, but this time, I got to wear a CPAP mask, too! Wow! I can hardly contain my excitement.
Actually, once I actually fell asleep, I slept better than the first night. Dave said I slept more in REM than my first night and REM is the most important stage of sleep. It took some getting used to, but I'll cope. I have to wait for Dr. Neil to interpret the results and write my Rx for my CPAP at the correct air pressure. Jen ( at Dr. Drinkwater's office ) wants me to start using it right away because when you're sleep is broken and you stop breathing 20-30 times every hour, your heart rate is up and down like a rollercoaster. This is very strenuous on your heart. So, by the time my surgery date rolls around, my heart and lungs will be in better condition.
Dave, the polysomnographic technologist (specially trained to administer sleep studies) monitored how I slept with the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, or CPAP, machine. CPAP therapy, the most effective treatment for sleep apnea, pushes pressurized air into your nose, keeping your airway open while you sleep. It prevents snoring and allows you to sleep deeply without frequent awakenings.
Please keep in mind ... I only went for a sleep study because I knew that I sometimes snore, but never, in a million years, thought I had sleep apnea to this degree.
If all goes well, after I lose this weight, the sleep apnea will disappear, and I will no longer need the CPAP

Kym from NH
Thanks everyone for your support. I just got back from the test and it was ok. I did freak a little due to the fact that I can't stand anything touching my throat and I am fighting a cold. On the good side once I did fall asleep, it was a good. I woke up more refreshed than I have in years, and look forward to getting a cpap for home. I didn't realize how much encouraging e-mails can help until I went through this.
thanks a whole bunch...

Don't worry Donna the cpap is the easy part. I fell in love with mine the first time i used it. I can't imagine sleeping without it now, I'm actually not looking forward to not needing it anymore. Its a little irritating worring about where my hose is all the time and training my cats not to attack the mask was a challenge but on the whole its been a true miracle and makes dealing with my kids so much easier when i'm well rested.
