I just ordered and recieved (overnight!!) the Med Diet pre surgery 14 day high protien liquid diet kit. It will be really interesting to say the least. I hope I will have the strength to stick to it. I will start next Tuesday... 27th of Sept. coming quickly. I am excited, nervous, etc. Anyone else doing pre surgery weight loss?

Hi Brika... I about fainted when my surgeon told me he wanted me to lose 25 pounds before surgery. (My BMI is quite high) Since I have diabetes and takes lots of meds it was almost impossible to lose. I did Atkins faithfully all thru May and June and didn't lose an ounce. I finally went to my PCP and begged for drugs and since it was going to be short term she let me have them. They (and lots of exercise) finally got it off and I am where my surgeon wanted me to be. So I know how you feel and you can stick to it. Keep telling yourself that it's only for a couple weeks and if you mess up...no biggie...just start right back on it. I hope you do great and congratulations on your upcoming date. Mine is MONDAY!!! Peggy ~A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step~

I ordered it from Medi Diet www.mediet.com It was expensive about 116.00$$ But, I think having it there and ready... this is what you get, will make it easier. They also have a postop package I may buy. Brika

I saw my surgeon back in March and weighed 265 lbs. He didn't tell me to lose any weight. Well, between March and August I gained 10 lbs So when I was finally approved for surgery, I panicked, because my surgeon has a strict policy of not gaining any weight or he will cancel the surgery! So I put myself on a liquid diet and I have lost 9 lbs so far, and my surgery is next Wed (9/14). I am going to keep up the diet through the weekend and hopefully lose 3-4 more lbs, and then on Monday I am going out for my "farewell" dinner. On Tuesday I am back on clear liquids only plus the colon cleansing, so I should be A-OK before my pre-op that same afternoon. Here is what I did for the liquid diet: protein shake for breakfast and lunch, and soup for dinner.

When I first saw my surgeon in April, he told me that I had to lose 75 pounds in order to have surgery. I could have crawled in a hole! I started Atkins right away and lost 35 pounds by the end of May. Then I went on a medically supervised liquid diet and have lost 76 pounds. I am scheduled for surgery on September 27. It has been tough, but I know it will all be worth it! Take care, and good luck with your surgery!
