Hi Girls,
My pre-op liquid diet consists of protein drinks, fat-free broth, sugar free jello, sugar-free popsicles, Crystal Light and decaf black tea or coffee, but I won't bother with coffee with no caffeine, and I can't even have my Land-O-Lakes fat free half and half that I love.
I would question the Dr. about no protein shakes ? That makes no sense to me. I know programs differ, but every program I've ever heard about or researched, requires protein shakes pre-op and post-op. Protein helps your body heal from surgery, and it protects you from losing muscle instead of fat. And, I would imagine , since it is the ONLY thing that has nutritional value... that you would NEED it pre-op. Please ask. It doesn't make sense to me at all.
Best Wishes,
Kym
Hey Kym,
Yes, you do need protein, but my pre-op regimen of clear only was for 2 days before surgery only... not the entire week or two that many docs have. I also didn't have to modify my pre-op diet before the liquids because I'm already a high protein gal, have been for 2 years... so they didn't feel the need to modify my eating habits at all. Hope that makes sense, and my surgery is over, no matter what I think everyone should verify what they are and aren't to do before surgery.
Hugs
Rachel
I had to go on a liquid diet a week before surgery (protein shakes, tea, broth, sf popsicles). Then today, two days before surgery, I started clear liquids only.
The beginning was rough, however, it prepared me for the phase I'm going through now with the clear liquids. I thought I was going crazy last week when I had to cut out food. Now, it's not too bad. I already lost 10lbs.
