RATIO FOR PROTEIN SHAKE'S?:-:
Tonya,
Man, I have been drinking those things all week!! All over the powders are different. The scoops are even different sizes, one would think there would be an industry standard. Anyway, the label should tell you how much protien per scoop is in the package. The label should also tell you how much fluid to mix it with. there are many differnet ways to make a shake I am learning all kinds of tricks.
So far my fav is, 8oz water, chocolate powder, dash of sugar free caramel flavoring. and blend it up with ice.
I also like the orangeaide/vanilla powder. Yummy
Start experimenting it is kind of fun..... oh yeah a tbls of peanut butter/chocolate is also very yummy
Good luck,
Debbie
Thank's Debbie for your reply.I see that your surgery is on the 6th.Congrats to you.I will be having my pre-op on the 6th.Boy there sure is alot to learn huh?I was'nt even sure what kind of protein powder to buy.I did hear that WHEY protein powder was good so I went with that.I went to my local Kroger grocery store and bought one that I thought would be good it is called SportPharma WHEY Protein Shake in Vanilla flavor. It has 22 grams of protein 4 net carbs and 2 lowfat grams it say's to mix with 5 oz of water or your favorite beverage.I found a recipe for a shake that was pretty good.it say's to mix....
8oz of liquid (I used Carb countdown milk)
3 ICE CUBES
3 FROZEN STAWBERRIES
1/2 BANANA
1 SCOOP POWDER
THEN BLEND AND IT WAS REALLY GOOD
That sounds pretty yummy!! only remember there is alot of carbs in the banana and the strawberries..... and your new tummy might not like it to much...
They say that whey is the best it is already partialy digested and is a branch chain amino acid (bcaa, should be on the label) Do you have a costco near you?? they have alot of the suff we need...chewable vits, vit c vanilla, choco powders, big boxes of broth
Boy is there ever alot to learn, my poor family they are trying to support me the best they can...they have even been going clear liquids and protien shakes with me.. The timing of eating and liquids is everything, i am finding out.. cant' have the calcium with the iron should take the vit c with the iron so i have had to try and space it all out....whew made me tired ...I am a nurse so I am hoping that helps, my nutrition people gave me alot of advice.
Thanks so much for the thought of my big day tomorrow. I am scared, nervous, excited, anxious, and every other feeling you could possibly have, I wish you the very best for your pre op i know things will go well
I have had to go on clear liquids and protien shakes for the last week...i am mourning my food.... some points of the day are better than others..
well, thanks for letting me ramble
I will see you on the loosing side
Debbie
