What do I need to bring to the hospital
I fianlly have a date of September 19th. Now I am trying to make sure I am prepared. I am not sure what I need to bring to the hospital. I read one wessage that talked about t-shirts to go under binder. Do we have to wear a binder? I don't meet with the dietician until the 15th. I don't even know what vitamins to buy. Any suggestions please reply.
Thank You, Annette
Are you reading my mind?? I have been wondering what to bring to the hospital with me on Sept. 19 also. I bought a robe and slippers that I hope will arrive in time. I guess I will bring some comfy pajamas. Other than that I have no idea. I will obviously bring toothbrush and toothpaste. But I really don't know what else to bring. I meet with my Dr. on the 15th, and will ask him some more. I am trying to get my protein and my liquids for the first couple of weeks, but it is very hard to try to get a lot of stuff and prepare. I am still trying to get my house in order before my mother in law gets here to watch my son, and to get lesson plans for my substitute for 3 weeks. I am hoping that I don't have to take off more than 3 weeks. I guess I will find that out from the DR. as well. Are you nervous?? I am nervous, but I have so much to do that I try not to think about it. I know that your surgery will go just fine, and you will do great.
Jill
Thank you for replying back. This is the first time I am really writing on here. I am nervous and very excited. I feel like my dreams can really come true! Also we have the same pre-op appointments. I am just trying to learn as much as I can. Someone did tell me to make sure I had a really good lip balm. I will keep you in my prayers also. Also I went to GNC and bought a protein shake called respect it is very good. Thank you again for your support.
Sincerely, Annette
Hi Jill, I'm having my surgery on the 19th too! I just bought a pair of comfy pj's today at Ross (discount store). Made sure they button up the front (for examinations) and have a drawstring but no elastic (to irritate sutures). I'm reading all I can, gaining from others' experience. Thank God this site (& WLSFriends!) is here!
Here's a biiiiig congrats & best wishes for all of us 'September babies!!'

Hi Annette,
I am so glad you posted this question, you beat me by about 20 minutes. I am also scheduled on the 19th of this month and getting really nervous. I had to have the psych evaluation done prior to insurance approval and it turned out she also did the nutrition evaluation too. But that was a couple months ago, I think I will call her early next week for suggestions. I guess I will meet with a "dietician" in the hospital but want to be prepared for coming home.
Best of luck to you, we will have to keep in touch and compare scars (haha). We will share a common date for our second chance at a more healthy life.
PS - I am scheduled for the Lap Roux-n-y.
(I will forward any pertintant info I receive from the nutricianist)
Talk to you soon.

Hello Ladies!!
Your nutritionist will tell you all that you need to know for the vits. and maybe you could call ahead of time and get a list so you can start buying and finding out where to get them.. like dry vit E I had to find it at super supplements
the other one i had trouble with is polysaccaride iron....vitalady has it at her website if your doc requires it......
as for the hospital i packed like i am going on a vacation well one that requires comfy jammie pants!!! and baggy tee shirts~
I also got a new book for inbetween laps around the nurses station...
I also got a new silk pillow to take I 'm a nurse and I know how uncomfortable the pillows at the hospital are...
hang in there girls, keep your eye on the prize!!
see you on the loosing side
debbie
Hi debbie,
Good luck on your surgery. I like that saying keep your eye on the prize. Thank you for responding to my message. If you have any other info to share let me know. I am also a nurse, but I work in NICU. I really do not feel as prepared as I would like to be. I did call the Nurse to see if I could get a list of the vits I will need and she said I will not need them for awhile so she suggest I just wait until the 15th which is my appointment with dietician. Good luck!!!!! I willl keep you in my very long list of proayers. I am so appreciative of this site.
Hi All! I purchased protein drink mix and vitamins from http://store.bariatriceating.com - my dietitian gave me a list of websites and I liked this one. The vitamins are specifically designed for bariatric patients. There are some for preops and immediately postop, and then another type for long term use after surgery. There's also an interesting article on the site under "This Month's Rant" that talks about the importance of vitamins and protein for healing and to prevent hair loss. I was wondering what to take to the hospital too - I'm thinking I may just buy some new slippers and wear their gowns and pants. I have, like most of you probably, dieted so much for so long, I have all sizes of clothes in my closet and I've decided not to spend anymore money on clothes until I'm smaller than the size 14 - 22's hanging in my closet, LOL! Good luck to you all!!!

Hi Karen,
Good luck on your surgery. Thank you for the website and the info. I broke down and bought a new pair of pj's I figure they could be big, actually I can't wait until they are to big. My problem is my pants are all to tight and I am not buying new ones. I will be wearing capris until I can fit into them. One thing another friend told me to definitely bring was mouth wash, she said the hospital mouth wash doesn't work.
