Changing Eating Habits

Hi All, I hope everyone is well. I'm interested in your input on changing eating habits. At 18 months out, I find that I can eat much much more than I could a year and a half ago. I am finding it hard not to snack and not to eat more than I should. In the beginning getting in protein was so important that I ate little else. An asparaus spear here and there or a bite of broccli on a rare occasion I'd have a salad. Never any fruit. This was largely to avoid the carbs and make sure I get the protein in. As my ability to eat more has returned, I've kept these habits. Recently I've put on a few pounds. 5 or 6. Not a huge deal, I'm doing some serious weight lifting and some of it could be muscle and it has been so cold that I'm much less active. But I'm also thinking I need to alter my diet to include more fruits and vegitables. Certainly if I eat 4 oz of meat and some fruit and veggies -- It's got to have less calories than 6 or 8 oz of meat...right? Do I need to feel guilty about having an orange for a snack? Many fewer calories than a protein bar...right?? Is this ok??? Does anyone else feel like they need to relearn how to eat at 18 months or is it just me??

Oh my gosh I've been eating veggies, fruits and whole grains for a while. I make sure I get my protein, but there are sooo many more calories in meat than veggies and I too need to feel/be full. I'm pretty much just maintaining my weight now so I'm trying to find a good balance. I've been eating about 1000 calories a day (i have thyroid issues) 60 grams of protein and 80-90 net carbs (carbs minus fiber). I also try to get 16-20 grams of fiber a day to keep things moving. Feeling guilty from eating and orange? I dont think so. This surgery was to help us lose the excess and to learn to live with the food all around us. We arent perfect and we will eat things we shouldnt. The key to success is learning not to over do it again. I dont even think an orange should be considered a bad thing unless you are drinking it in juice form and having several glasses a day then you have a carb issue. Your weight should naturally fluctuate between a 10 lb range (so my nutrtionist says) im sure with the lifting your actually losing fat and building muscle. Good job!!!! I watch my weight everyday and wish i could drop down a few more but i maintain between 153 to 159 up and down up and down but I can live with that. from 300^ to the 150's not so bad. I say we should all stop today and pat ourselves on the back and congratulate us on what a wonderful 18 months its been . I know by now I would have given up in the past but my mindset is so different now. This is a lifestyle change and I did it and so have all of you ...WWWOOOO HOOOOOOO Have an orange for me I cant eat them the little membranes hurt my pouch lol Tammy O
