Hello friends, well what a provacative heading right!! But I do need diet help, but not for me, for my sweet wonderful husband. He has and is gaining weight since my surgery. It's so weird, I was always the 'fat' one and he was so, oh I don't know, in excellent condition I guess. Now, I am sorry to say he is sporting a stomach!! I don't know what he weighs because he is in denial and won't get on the scale. I know that I contributed to this at first because whatever I couldn't finish, I would give to him and he would finish. I don't do that anymore. So here is my question -- he loves Atkins, did it once and it worked and he thinks its great cause he doesn't have to do portion control so much. But now he has trouble doing it. I don't know how to help him. Can I?? I know when it was me no one could really help me, but me. But I just feel so badly for him. What is a good diet out there for men?? Anyone have any suggestions? I've suggested WW, nope, he doesn't want to go to meetings. I really could use some help here. I just feel so bad. Does anyone else have this spouse issue?? love donna

Oddly enough my husband is going through the same thing except he realizes that he has an issue and is starting to work out. I think I kinda helped him along because I was like I can't eat this you eat it so I won't get a stomach ache, so I have stopped doing that now.

Hi Michelle, yeah, that is actually one good thing, Greg does work out. He used to be a runner but had back surgery and that put a stop to that. He's always had a big appetite but when he was running it was balanced out. You did what I did -- fed him your leftovers!! It's also hard to cook just smaller portions -- it's just the two of us. And it seems he feels like he has to eat everything!! Oh well, I hope I can figure this out for him. love donna

Hey Donna Mae, Hope the holiday treated you well and you're recovering from the Knee surgery/replacement. The Husband and diet issue is a whole new and difficult topic. First, remember what we were like? Could ANYONE put us on a diet? He's got to want to take care of the problem and he's gotta see it first. How about a suggestion to get a physical? That is always a good start and he can see how much he weighs and a good doctor would say something about the overweight issue and can even put him on a healthy diet. for m, I always hated the counting of anything: fat grams, calories, etc. If he liked atkins in the past, maybe suggest that. Yes, getting someone to diet is a set up for YOU to feel bad...Be careful of this one. Hope some of these suggestions are helpful. Take care, hugs and love from Germany, jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline, yes you are oh so right about what we were like. I remember that, and try real hard to be sensitive about it. I know no one could convince me but myself. And I have tried the doctor route, but he always says 'I want to lose a little bit of weight first'. Thanks for your suggestions - hope you are having a nice holiday season in Germany! love donna

well, my DH doesnt' do much in the way of working out...so I've been talking lately about how I wish we could do things together...like biking, walking, wall climbing, etc...finally yesterday, he said to get him up at 6:15, that he wanted to walk with me and Molly (95 lb fur-child)...so we'll see. I also did something kinda mean...I've mentioned a couple of times how much more enjoyable 'it' is without all this weight to move around and that I know he knows what I am talking about...maybe that had something to do with it too!!! We'll see...he HAS lost 30 lbs since I had my surgery because we are no longer 'buffet buddies'!!! but he needs to lose about 40 more. He said the other day that he really didn't want to be more than 100 lbs than me .... that's when I reached my goal of 145, so he must weigh in the low 240's, I guess. And I remember SO WELL, knowing that I weighed more than him prior to surgery and how much I hated that... We'll see.

Remind him how fantastic the sex is when you're both lean and mean!!! It's true! Since I lost, and Bob had his surgery and he's down 85lbs, the sex is better than it has ever been! And we're gonna celebrate our 11th anniversary on New Year's Eve! Was this too much info?? Ah, so what? I'm happy! Just have to find time when our kids aren't in our faces! It's nice that he has Mon & Tues off and the kids are in school! Paula

Hehehe, well did you guys watch Oprah yesterday?? She had Dr. Oz (about diets) on and he said that for every 35lbs a man loses he gains an inch! HA I thought that was funny but I can believe it. You'd think that would be some motivation!

Hi - I actually did see that show. By the way, what do you think of his program? Anyway, I probably had poor timing on this one, but my husband got out of the shower and came in the bedroom (naked!!) and I said 'oh by the way, I watched a show yesterday that said if you lose 35 lbs you gain a inch in your penis'. Like I said I don't think my timing was particularly sensitive!! So I quickly recovered and said, although you don't need to worry about that!! But i fear the damage was done as he looked a little rejected!! Timing is everything!!! love donna
