I did finally get down to a normal BMI...Want to know where the weight came from? MY Boobs. The difference between 175 and 167 for me was almost nothing in waist but 2 cup sizes in bust. So normal BMI isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Linda I so feel your frustration. I too am over weight according to my bmi. One of the ways the scale at my surgeons office measures is by body fat. My body fat components are right in line with where I should be. I still want to lose, because I would like to maintain at 150-155 and I am very aware of bounce back weight. I have a male friend that I work with. A few years ago I remember him telling me that his Dr. said that he needed to loose a lot of weight. He is 6' 2 " tall and over 50 years old. His Dr. had him go down to 195 lbs from about 225. I was shocked at how terrible he looked. At that time I realized that this BMI thing and the "right weight" for some was very subjective. One of the replies has a web site that will tell you what your average weight is to the rest of the world. I was thrilled to learn that I am about 17 pounds lighter than the average 43 year old woman.... that works for me. find what makes you happy. I think a lot of us have a primary goal that we think that we are happy with and then will drop it down once we get there. I know when I first started this whole process the thought of getting to size 16 thrilled me. I knew that I would be happy with that.... lol.... now I wouldn't dream of getting to 14. I say I am a size 12, I wear a 10-12 but mostly 12's. Until I am in an 8-10 I won't say I am a 10. remember above all be happy.... You have done a great job donna

Hey linda what is your waist size I was watching OPRAH the other day and this dr came on and said that womens waist to be healty should be under 32 and men should be under 40 he said instead of focusing on weight numbers focus on size of your waist and that is a way to determine health also. How tall are you? I am 5"7 and 182 now that I have gained 10 lbs but people tell me if I lose anymore I would look sick but I want to at least lose another 20 lbs if not 30

Michelle - I haven't measured myself in a long time - I think I will do that today after work just to find out - I listened to the same thing on Oprah .. I am 5'3" and 163 as of this morning - I went to my surgeon's support group meeting last night and asked him what he thought about the BMI - he told me to stop obsessing about numbers!!! He told me that I am healthy and look wonderful and that I need to stop reading so much :lmao: I am obsessive - a man at the meeting last night called it "protective" - we have become very protective of ourselves - we never want to go back to where we were. I will NEVER go back! I'm going home to measure my waist love, linda

I think it is all individual so I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. You say you are happy with your body and that is the most important thing really! My BMI is down to 22.7, my waist is 27 inches and I my body fat is only 23% yet I am still not happy with my body. If I could feel the way you do I would think I'd won the lottery. Like someone else said BMI does not take muscle and other things into account, that is why I also measure my body fat % and measure myself in inches....all of the factors together are what make for a healthier more active life and that's what you wanted right?! If your Dr says you are fine then screw the BMI charts, you have done great!!
