What damage am I doing?
Hello friends, and I mean that in the true sense of the word not by the button because I don't think I've 'buttoned' you all yet~!!
Okay, so we all have been through my knee surgery, and I am sure you are tired of me whinning, so I won't. But this sucker hurts!! So I have been on vicodin since that time (2 weeks). To be honest I couldn't survive without it them, it is much too painful and I am a pretty tough girl. So what kind of damage am I doing to my pouch?? Am I going to get more of an ulcer??? And if I don't do this, what do you do?? I can't be the only one to take pain pills right??
Please give me some help.

Did you ask your WLS Dr? Mine had mentioned that when on any medication let them know, they may prescribe a medicine to coat the stomach. Something like a tum's or maylox. Unless your already taking something. I was told pretty much as long as we all worked together that you could take all most anything short term.
Hope your feeling better, it must stink not to be able to move around.

Stink did you say -- it totally stinks!! I told my husband I was depressed, and he, who is always up up up and happy said no you're just a little bummed. Okay call it what you want!!
I did initially ask my wls surgeon and he said for the length of time I would be on them there would be no damage. But I've been on them over two weeks and I don't kinow if I'm over the length of time he thought I'd be on them or not. I usually am good with pain, but this one is a killer!!
thanks flirt!!

p.s. and what a tease to me about that leg on the dash - I would just like to get my leg in the car without picking it up like it's a stick!!!
Donna,
Bob has to take Vicodin (on his days off) for his bad back and our surgeon ok'd it. It's tylenol based and isn't a problem. It's the aspirin based pain meds that you have to watch out for.
You can get dependant on them, so watch for that...But, if you stop when the pain is lessened and switch over to just plain old Tylenol, then do so. Maybe alternate tylenol and the vicodin doses and you'll be better off.
Take care of the pain first...you will heal better if you are pain free. It's proven. AND, surgery was just a week or so ago. That's a short time...

I don't know what kind of damage you may do but if you need them then you need them.
I give you credit because they say that the knee surgery is the most painful. So I feel for you.
Maybe if you take the pill with milk it will help the pouch? I guess you'd have to ask the pharmasist(sp) if it could be taken with milk or yogurt.
good luck.
