One year and a new life

I celebrated one year on the 13th. I went from 326 to 203. I was stuck at 217 forever and now 203. Probably because I haven't seen the 100's for close to thirty years! I have been craving the not so great foods and soda again. I just need a swift kick the the baggy butt and get back to support group and excercise. I had time off due to a hysterectomy, bladder repair and rebuilding of my internal female neither reigion which had dropped. Damaged caused by my old weight. I am now 6 weeks out of that and need a jump start. I love my new life. The sleep apnea, acid reflux, asthma/pnuemonia induced from acid reflux, high blood pressure, high cholosterol, severe joint pains and the extreme fatigue is gone. My diabetes was brittle and out of control even with insulin and oral meds. Now it is treated by diet alone. I could not pass the physical a year ago for my CDL and now I have my papers all signed and approved! It is almost a miracle. I went to a family reunion and it is the first one everyone talked to me, that was after they finally recognized me. I had one relative not come because she is now the heaviest one. I remember those days. I hike now, play with the children in my ministry (I used to sit and direct from the sidelines) and have as much energy as my grandchildren. I still deal with depression, but with only less than half the meds. In fact, that is my only regular prescription from over 20 per day a year ago. I do not regret having the surgery. I do caution people though that it is NOT a quick fix and a lot of work. I am thankful my husband also went through it so we are both on the same page. That really helps. The first three months after mine, before he had his was difficult. But now it is flowing smoothly, most of the time. On with life!

Thank you for your response. I appreciated the confirmation that stalls can make you crazy and it isn't just hormones! Have a great fall! Deb

Hi Deb, We have SO mu*****ommon! We both started at approx the same weight (326 is what my surgeon goes by, my highest was 330+ cause my scale stopped at 330) and now I'm down to 203 and stuck there! I want to get to onderland and get down to 175, but I'm stuck right now. The scale showed 198.7 the other day, but when I moved the scale to several different spots in the bathroom, it showed the true weight...203!!! DAMM My husband also had surgery after me. It's making it much better for the eating, but, I still have to make my small kids their own healthy meals. I'm actually finding it hard to cook for hubby cause he can't tolerate the meats and foods that I've been able to. I gets frustrating. I think he's eating too quickly with too large of food, but try to tell a man he's doing something wrong....HA! I have a lot of energy now and feel great. I can play and run with my kids now. I am on my panic/depression meds also, and now 2 ulcer meds. Those will be gone in a month. I remember not wanting to go places as I was the biggest one there. I remember all too well noone speaking or looking at me because of fat prejudice. Now, people all over the place that NEVER spoke to me before come up to me and talk and tell me they didn't recognize me and how terrific I look. It's weird how people come around when you look the so called "normal" as society has defined us. You're right, this was a huge decision to have surgery and it was no easy road. It's just a tool and we can easily gain back if we let our old habits creep back in. Like I've told people here, shut down your kitchen by 8pm, and don't go back in until morning. Don't keep suspect foods in your house. If you want chocolate, go out and buy one small package, eat it and don't bring it in the house. If grandkids are coming over..make popcorn and discard the rest...feed them fruit and veggies...they don't need the crap food anyways...Always have water near you to drink and do water loading up to 10 minutes before you eat to fill your small intestine and spasm it to make you feel fuller. And...don't graze during the day and night!!! That's the #1 reason why WLS patients gain weight back. Congrats on your year's successes. You've done so well! paula

Thank you for your encouraging letter! I have slipped and keep lots of "bad" foods around. I didn't necessarily keep my eyes open to how things slipped in, but the because of the grandkids is a good/lame excuse! It's not that we eat a lot of them, but over a weeks time, well, they disappear, magically! The 8 o'clock kitchen is a handy tool I will start to use. I know I eat too late, often. Maybe just kicking in a couple of your hints will help me get off my plateau! Thanks a bunch! My husband and I tolerate different foods too. I just expand the meal to incorporate what each of us eats and cook all at once. I do miss lots of veggies, barbecue and chili! I also purchase things from Schwans. They package many items into small servings and then if it isn't small enough, I only thaw one serving and share it. Works well. Basically, when the grandkids eat with us, usually 3 times a week (they live a few blocks away and get weekly grandma/pa time individually) I add a starchy food and I share their veggies. My hubby also seems to have a higher capacity than me! But he is loyal to the every 3 hours and no drinking during meals. I feel very uncomfortable and weighted down unless I take a few sips during meals. Probably just psychological and I just need to retrain or up my Effexor. I am now dealing with instant menopause! I though PMS was a munchie inducer for a day a month, this is awful not even taking into consideration the hot flashes. I have been told it will even out eventually. No hormone therapy for me because of previous blood clots! Just tough it out, but it is yet just another curve ball that I will survive! Enjoy fall and the new clothes you will probably be needing! Thanks again for your response! Congrats back to you also! Deb

Thank you for your reply. I guess it is a good thing that we don't get fitted with an automatic zapper during surgery or much of the world would be in trouble! Deb
