BRILLIANT QUESTIONS !!
HEY YA'LL
i got a good question about malsorbtion. Since we malabsorb may nuitritional things and need viatims, etc extra protrein, etc, is it also possible that we malabsorb carbs too? And if not? WHY NOT? I tried to have this conversation with my GERMAN surgeon...brilliant surgeon whom I LOVE but he could not discuss this with me. Saw him today for my year exam.. "I am doing Brilliant"he says but could not discuss in English the whole malabsorbtion thing. If anyone has an appointment in the next while with their surgeon or nutritionist, could you please ask this question. I am dying for answers...Not that I am all about Carbs, but I was just wondering.
All else is cool here, and I mean COOL as the weather has turned and it is rainy and cool as it gets here in Germany...YUCK. Fall weather is here, No Indian summer for us this year. Alright... Hope ya'll have great start to your week.
OH, Discussed the issue of Plastic Surgery and my surgeon said HE could do a lower body lift for me: That is what I need, he said. Would anyone consider letting their RYn surgeon do a body lift? I do not know how I would feel about it. He would probably do good. Ya know there are not a whole lot of options here in Germany for Plastic Surgeons? He also said to wait until 18 months...assures me I am not done loosing despite only loosing 10 pounds in three months!! UGHHHHHHH very frustrating. But remember our first month, three month and 6 months visits back to our surgoens. Good news then!! Ok, Any help on these burning questions would be appreciated. I am also considering a visit to the States for a lower body lift and wonder if anyone has begun the Plastic Surgeon search. I would have to look at recovery time and how often one goes for follow up etc. OH OK, I am out now. Hugs from Chilly Germany, love Jacqueline
Hello Jacquline, your brilliant friend is here to give you a brilliant 'I don't know the answer'!! It's a good question though and I bet someone else out there has the answer to it.
I don't know about the lower body lift by the surgeon, I'm not sure I would. We had a plastic surgeon come to our support meeting last week and did a show and tell of his patients and he pretty much focuses on wls patients. Anyway, just for you to know, he said the total cost for him and hospital is about $13,000. I have another surgeon that I think I would rather use but I think that is a comparable amount.
So he thinks your not done losing - great, that means maybe I'm not either. Last month, my 11th month I lost 3 lbs, then this month i've lost another 3 pounds. I mean at least I'm losing.
Are you tucked in for the night -- have your warm little jammies on??
love

Okay I can only tell you what I remember being told about the malabsorbtion issue. Remember this was a little over a year ago at my pre op so dont hold me to everything I say. But, as well as I can remember my surgeon said that vitamins and calcium are absorbed in the area of the old stomach that was skipped so the part that actually absorbs them is just sitting there with no action going on. Fats and carbs are absorbed lower in the intestines so that part was attatched to the new stomach. So when we eat foods they go through our new pouch and then hit the intestines as they break down into sugar and bad for us stuff. Therefore absorbing what we dont want it to. It takes the new system 18 months to figure out how to do this completely so we have the honeymoon period before we actually stop loosing weight. I think between 6-18 months it starts figuring this out but by 18 months it knows what happened and it starts absorbing again. I hope this has helped you some. As far as the plastic surgery I am in the beginning stages of that also. I would love for my bariatric surgeon to do plastics as I believe him to be the best doctor in the world. However i am glad that he devotes his life to bariatrics because this is what made him the best at it. I want to have butt implants and I am having trouble finding a plastic surgeon for this. Most do butt lifts but that would just make me completely flat. Good luck on your plastics research.
