what happens to us if we dont get enough protein

I try to et my protein in everyday but some days it falls short...im at 110 now and am getting scared im gonna be just skin and bones soon...i get atleast 50 grams in..but what happens to us if we dont get enough? does our body fail...like organs or what?

Jennifer, Read your post and am trying to understand? You are at 110 Pounds and afraid of continuing to loose weight and are not getting enough Protein? Girl, Speak to your Nutritionist. How tall are you? What do you want to weigh? If you feel like you are loosing too much/have lost too much consult with nutritionist about the best way to stop this. For me, I get protein from protein drink every day..23 grams with skim milk that is 31 grams of protein. Matrix makes a great chocolate one. I also eat string cheese 2% milk. They have 8 grams of protein per little stick and are great for a snack or I eat three for breakfast...easy, convenient and fast plus protein. I hope this has been helpful. I'll ask too. Are you currently weighing in at 110 pounds or have you lost 110 pounds?? I have reached goal of 142 pounds (3 pounds under goal and 111 pounds lost) and I consistently get 76-80 grams of protein per day. I start the day, EVERYDAY, with a protein shake from GNC called NitroTech. It has 45 grams of protien. Don;t beleive the idea that you can't absorb it if it's over 30 grams. I'm proof and my surgeon agrees. I also take in other vegetarian proteins throughout the day. Refried beans, low carb/higher protein tortillas, block cheeses, string cheeses, yogurts and the like. I look NORMAL and I know that it's because of my protein intake. If I only took in 50 grams of protein, I wouldn't weight nearly enough and wouldn't have the muscle tone to look good or exercise like I do (jogging and running 5 days a week). I Think that your first move is to find additional protein sources, bump up the total number per day and see your physician/nutritionist. Please let us kow what's up! ***Shauna***

Please see your nutritionist/ DR. It is very important to get all of your vitamins and protein in. If you are getting under weight- I don't know your height and current weight - than that should be addressed asap. let us know how you are making out donna

i have been eating like 50 or so grams of protein if i can a day...sometimes less sometimes just 55 or so...i am at 110...total weight loss is 130 ...i just dont want to loose anymore...i am 5 3 and 110 so that puts me at a normal weight if i loose i think 5 more pounds i will be under wieght and i definately dont want that...thanks everyone for your responses...i have bloodwork on friday and an appointment for follow up in two weeks from then so il will try to push push push for protein...i really do eat it firsst i just dont seem to eat alot.. thanks you guys all for your input...
