Thanks for all of your suggestions on lunch ideas. I have taken a great many of them. I love coffee...and frankly need the caffine in the morning to get going and be a nice person. I stopped drinking any caffine at all for about 4 months after surgery...but have been back at it. I've read things that say it is awful terrible and bad for your pouch. I heard and read other things that don't mention it at all. My surgeon doesn't specifically exclude it or alcohol after the first 3 months. What have you all heard? What do you all do? Would be really interested in the feedback. Thanks. Courtney

Hi Courtney, I have started drinking coffee for a couple months now. I asked my doctor about it and he said as long as I don't go over board b/c caffine can absorb your vitiams. I also drink alcohol ........ vodka to be exact. I used to drink soda alot and now since the surgery, i have substituded with coffee. Caffine really affects me as far as the fact that i have to be busy.... which with soda it never did that... but I also used to drink beer but now i have to drink (stupid vodka) which i would rather have beer but no carbonination for me ....... My doctor just to me to do it moderation. heidi

Heidi, I had to get off the vodka. I was making a a ss of myself. I told my doctor. He said I could drink beer. But to not make a habit of it becausse it is empty calories. I ask if the carbonation would hurt. He said If I drink moderate it wont hurt. So when I go out. a beer might take 1 hr to drink. But it beats me making a fool of myself. I like beer much more. How do you do with your drinks Barb

We were given two reason not to drink coffee. One is that caffeine is a diarrhetic- something you really should avoid when having a bypass it is not so bad if you have the band. The other is that it can cause ulcers. That would concern me for later on. We are told no caffeine again. I do drink decaf. They are much easier about alcohol. The biggest down fall to alcohol other than the empty calories is the easy effect of alcohol poisoning. It can happen faster than you think. Now there are people in my group who do use both- but the written rule on this is nope. donna
