What a horrible last 24 hours

I can not begin to tell you the stress I have been under in the last 24 hours. My 3 year old decided she was going to find out what a penny tastes like. I guess that would hae been fine if it didn't get lodged in her throat. We live in east nowhere so we had to travel 3 hours to get to a hospital that could take care of her. They actually had to put her to sleep and go in with a scope to get it out. It was so hard to see my baby lying there and not be able to explain to her what is going on except that they were going to get the penny out of her throat. I think it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do - leave my baby in the OR while she was still awake. I could see the terror in her eyes as they made me walk away while she was still awake. The good news is that she came out ok and we got home about 9pm tonight. The bad news is that I have eaten every little thing in sight and on top of that I am so physically and emotionally wore out that I think I could sleep for a week. I thought maybe all this emotional eating was behind me now, but obviously not. Thisis very hard for me to take. In case anyone is wondering, no they did not give us the penny to keep. However they did give my daughter a teddy bear and we decided the only name that she shold have is Penny. Christine

I am so sorry that your little girl had that happen to her and sorry for you that you had to endear it all.Boy that must have been so scary for both of you.I'm glad everything turned out ok just wanted to tell you that.My son is 14 now but when he was smaller he decided to put a broken off eraser from a pencil in his ear which required a trip to the ER and then a trip to an ear, nose and throat Dr. because the ER couldnt get it out because it was setting right on his eardrum.

I'm so glad she's okay. I can't imagine having to drive three hours like that. *shiver* But you do what you have to do. That's great that they gave her a bear........that bear will become a treasured item with a nice scary story to go with it for years to come. --BT

Hi Christine, I'm so sorry about your tedious day. Thank God that your little one is all healed. My daughter had bad ear problems and had her first surgery at 5 mos. It was SO hard to let her go with the surgical nurse to go to the surgery. She's had 5 surgeries since then and my son two. It's an awful feeling for a parent. My husband gave my daughter (when she was 4) a quarter to buy a bubblegum after lunch at the food court at the mall. Well, while waiting in line for their food, guess where the quarter went? Right down her throat and got stuck. She was gasping and couldn't breathe. My husband screamed to call 911 and did the heimlech maneuver on her and it came flying out. Thank God. He came home SO shook up I'd never seen he look like that before. It really shook him. We never can tell the kids enough NOT to put stuff in their mouths. Give yourself a break regarding the eating. You were in a very stressful situation, with probably no good food at your disposal. Today is a different day and you can start again. We all have those types of days. With all the depressing rain we've been having, I stayed in my PJ's all day on Mom's Day and nibbled here and there on stuff. I got back on track yesterday. Rest, it was trying on your nerves and you deserve to readjust from the trauma of being a parent and having to drive and spend so much time at the hosptial. Glad all is well. paula

Hi Christine, oh my gosh! I am so sorry for you having to go through that. I can't imagine having to drive that long with that little thing being so scared, and probably in pain!! Poor thing. But thankfully it ended well. Christine, stop beating yourself up about your eating. Unfortunately stress makes us eat! So -- okay we know that! Did it, been there, got the t -shirt. W're not perfect. It's how some of us deal - unfortunately. I also bite my nails - even around the acrylic ones that I have on!! But today is a new day for you. And you can get back your control. Just cause you did it yesterday, doesn't set the pattern for today. I am so glad everything is okay. And she has a new little friend, Penny, to show for her trouble!! Poor little thing - I am sure she was so scared, and of course you!! Have a better day christine!! love donna

Oh sweetie, boy those rotten kids really do give us grey hair. It's so hard to see them hurting and not being able to make them better. I'm glad she's okay. I'd like to say it gets better, buy my daughter is almost 24 and I still worry about her like I did when she was little. Micha

OMG, I would have panic atack. My daughter broke her arm in school and I left work and went to the hospital. My parents was there. I heard my daughter screaming the top of her lungs when they was setting it. It made me cry so hard. I have 3 grandsons. and one time one of them jumped off my couch and hit the ellipitcal with his head. It knock him out he turned blue and his eyes back in his head. My daughter and I called the squad. I was squared to death. My daughter handled it well. He just ended up waking up with a big goose egg. They took him in he was fine. Then on easter my other grandson had to be rushed to the emergery room. Fell and bumped his head on the patio while pushing a truck it caught caught in a groove and flipped him to the patio. I could not imagine going three hours like that. I was sick to my stomach both times. I am glad your daughter is fine. You poor thing 3 hrs is a long trip to worry. Glad your home and all is good. Chris Just do what Donna said. STOP IT !!!! Its a new day!!!! Your doing great !!!! Love Ya Barb
