I have been thinking about what goal weight I should shoot for and was wondering what everyone else is shooting for. My surgon hasn't set a goal weight for me. Before surgery it was estimated that I was 110 pounds overweight. I am 5'3" and weighed 242 pounds at my first consult. I now weigh 155 lbs. I have lost 87 pounds in 8 months. According to the BMI calculator, I would need to be 140 pounds to be at a normal BMI. Everyone I know swears I look a lot smaller than 155 pounds and I don't need to loose anymore, just firm up. I wear anywhere from a size 9-11 depending on the brand of jeans. I have on a size 29 Abercrombie jeans right now and they are loose through the thighs and butt. The waist is snug though. My surgon thinks I am doing great with my weight loss and his nurse and dietician always tell me I look so small compared to what the scales say I weigh. I would love to be 130 pounds but the weight loss has slowed so much I don't know if I can get to that weight. Of course I never thought I could get to 155 either. It seems so unreal when I get on the scales and see that number. I have never weighed less than 170 pounds in my life and that was in high school.
Do you worry about being a particular size more than a particular weight? It seems most women worry about what size they are.

Hi Cyndie,
My surgeon told me that his goal for me was 209 pounds. I think that's by going by the 75% loss rule...My goal for myself, however, is 175. I think it's possible, maybe not by a year out, but possible someday.
I'm 100 pounds down now. I go by the weight I was the first day I weighed in at the surgeon's office, because that's how he calculates it, not by starting the day of surgery.
I'm not worried by dress sizes because the designers seem to change the way they cut clothes every few years and no one is a "true" size anyways.

Im 174 and 5`8 I am told I am thin I love my curves and am very pleased with this healthy size. What scares me so bad Is I will not stop losing weight and end up very thin and sickly looking. I always look forward to dropping a size. I am now working on a size 10 That size is perfect once I reach it. It buttons on me but very tight. I have always looked a healthy weight. Even when I was young I wasnt obese but I had a full figure. That is me. I dont want to lose that.

I'm 5'6" and my goal is around 150 - but my normal BMI starts at 154.
My personal opinion on why people think you look so much smaller, is because everyone lies about their weight! Really, and people carry weight so much differently, I don't think the majority of people have a realistic view of what 150 (or any other number) looks like. Does that make sense?
Honestly I don't care about the size or with weight, my vanity lies in how I look in the mirror. I say whatever you're happy and healthy at!

I am 5'3" and, according to OH's BMI calculator, 140 is the most I can weigh and be in the "normal" weight category. That is my goal, to be in that normal category. I have 35 more lbs to lose, which I am hoping to achieve by the end of the summer.
That being said, I am so thrilled with my weight (175) and size (14) right now that if I didn't lose one more pound I would be happy to maintain. I look good, I feel good, better than I have in years.
Hi all
I am 4'10". All the books say I should weigh 110. My doctor's goal for me was 130. I am 117 right now. That gives me a "normal" BMI. I personally want to reach 102. Almost there. I am currently in a size 10/12 (8 in skirtsa nd dresses). I want to be in a size 6. That is just me though.

Hi Cyndie!
You know.. I've thought about this question and here is my personal conclusion.
I've learned that when we look at our ideal weight we also have to consider our bone frame and our muscle density (muscle weighs more) into consideration when thinking what we "should" weigh according to charts. So, although my "ideal" according to the chart is 145, my surgeon said that most charts go by giving women an ideal via small frames only ( I guess women can only be measured as small boned). Given that... My personal goal is 165, since I am medium boned' and pretty muscular (so I added 10lbs for each factor!) and I love being a "curvy girl" as opposed to a twiglette.:D
Now I am 184 and a size 14. So, if it's 15 lbs for every dress size, if I lost 20ish more lbs I should/would be a size 10! For me that would be ideal!! So, that's my sideways analysis!
Hope that helps!

My personal goal is 220. That still puts me overweight, since for a "normal" BMI I need to weigh 207. I weighed 215 once, and was just too darn thin. So I'll be happy around 220. Then again, if I get down to that, and can maintain, and have PS, I'll weigh around 210-205.
Really, anything under 250 and I'm happy. Last weigh in I was 261.
I started out LARGER than most on this board @ 358 lbs. My realistic weight is about 161lbs. I am a VERY large boned woman with MANY curves. I wear between a 11 and 12 size shoe, and started out in a 11 size ring finger now a 9, after losing 110 lbs. My mom is about 6 ft tall, that 's where I got it from, even though I'm only 5'6".
In high school I remember weighing 185lbs, and people thought I weighed 150 due to how it was distributed, and being small waisted(big everywhere else) LOL!
SO.....I would like to get to 185 lbs. To be honest just to get to 199.9 would be FANTASTIC! My surgeon does not have a goal for me, but thinks I might not make it to under 200. We will see, I am 248 today @ almost 8 months out. I will definetely need some plastics done...we will see....
Just to be a 16 would be FABULOUS for me. I cant imagine being smaller, as I don't remember being smaller. In tops I am already a LARGE, but in pants I am in a 22.
We shall see!!!!!!!!
