Exercising

I know, I know, I'm a bad girl, but I just started exercising this week since the surgery. I just couldn't seem to motivate myself to do it when the pounds were melting like butter on a warm biscuit. I have found that it doesn't matter I've lost 105 lbs, I am desperately out of shape! I find I can do just the warm-up on Denise Austin's Ultimate Fat Burner LOL, but it's better than nothing. What type of exercises are you doing? I'm actually thinking of buying me and my 6-year old daughter some roller skates! How fun would that be, roller skating around town?

I have two routines I do - Warm up - 10 min on Treadmill at fat burning level (118bps for my age) Body Bridge - laying down w/knees bent & lifting the pelvis so your body forms a triangle - straight line from shoulders to knees. Ball Crunches - a normal crunch, but using a ball for balance Dog Paddle (not sure what this one is really called - but you're down on all fours & lifting alternate limbs - Right Arm & Left Leg, Left Arm & Right Leg). It works on balance & core muscles Ball Chair - With the ball between your back & a wall, legs out from the wall, "sit down", except you are not actually sitting on anything. Then I do 2-4 leg exercises 1-2 back exercises, 1-2 shoulder exercises, 2-3 arm exercises on the machines _______________________________ The second one I do is Callanetics - I bought the book years ago, and really like the exercises in it. They do not require any special tools, nor a gym membership, so they are things I can do at home. ________________________________ Then sometimes, all I feel like doing is just walking on the treadmill, and I'll do that for 30-60 minutes. --BT

IMHO- you have to find what is right for you. I did a lot of thinking and realized that I don't want to go to a gym with a lot of people or do jazzercise. We have an elliptical at work that I use Monday-Friday at the least 3 day, but more often than not I am there 5 days- for 45 minutes. I try to walk causally with my family as offten as I can. After loseing a bunch of weight I started to play ice hockey one night a week. Hope to actually do this twice a week afterthe next sign ups. I think that the roller skates are a great idea and will actually try strapping mine on again. good luck donna

Roller skating sounds like fun! I've been walking since surgery and now walk 45 min (10 of which is jogging) every morning and cover 4 miles. On Mon, Wed, Fri I also do Jazzercise. Most days I also get on the treadmill at the highest incline and 3.2 mph for 25 minutes....trying to get my calves shaped up some. Pam 5'2" 282/172/145

Hi Shannon, I would love to do the roller skating!! That sounds fun. I agree with Donna, I think you have to find something that you enjoy. I tried to do things that I thought were right like treadmill walking, and found I just didn't like it. It was a chore to do so I didn't do it. But now I do Curves, I do yoga, pilates, and salsa dancing. So I love my routine. I am thinking of Jazzercise, but I don't know. So I think that's the secret, find something that you can enjoy and get a good workout as well. I know it's hard to do exercise, but I remember my surgeon said to me after surgery 'I've done my work, now you have to do yours, and part of that is exercise'. I've always remembered that! good luck! love donna
