Topic: September 17..Happy surgiversary surgery buddies!
Three years! Whew, can you believe it's been that long????
Looking back...
At my consult, I was 352 lbs. The day of my surgery, I was 344 lbs. Today? 170 lbs. That's a 92% decrease of my excess weight!!
Has it been easy?
Heck no! In the first year post op, I had 15 endoscopies (due to strictures and 2 ulcers), 2 perforations (from the endoscopes), a revision (due to the perforations), and a triple internal hernia (aka KBS). The 2nd year, my complications had all cleared up and instead, I had to have bunion surgery on each foot..separately (so 14 weeks of being in a walking cast!).
And now????
Now, I'm looking forward. Next Tuesday on the 25th, I will be having abdominoplasty (full tumy tuck) and thigh lift done. In March, I'll be getting a breast lift & implant and arm lift. By my 4 yr surgiversary, I will finally have the body that I could have never obtained without the help of weight loss surgery. Every endo, every stricture, every ulcer, every perf, every surgery was worth it for every pound that I have lost and kept off!
So...September '04' buds...I hope you were able to or will be able to .... spend your surgeriversary saying 'YAY!!! I did it!!'.

Did you have to pay for the revision? Just curious.
Thanks!

Topic: Revisions?
I was just wondering for those of you who have had the revision or are considering it; what are the "requirements"? I am going to talk with my surgeon on the 16th of this month but was hoping for some answers
Thanks

Topic: RE: B12 and Iron problems
i am on monthly injections for B-12. They tried to take me off them but i ended up out of commision, poor hubby was in shock bc i forgot to tell him that they were testing to see if i still needed them. after 2 months he took me to the doc and said she needs the shot now. she is useless, and she is always cranky... he had to do the talking b****pt dozin off...LOL they ran a blood test and ohhh yeah my b-12 was REALLY low.
Also i am taking prenatals with iron. NO i am not pregnant but i need the iron that is in them plus i was told to use those as my multivitamin. Since then my levels have been great.

TEMA
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER MY POST, YOUR SUCH A SWEETHEART JUST LIKE I KNEW YOU WOULD BE.
I GUESS YOU ARE RIGHT THAT I SHOULD TALK TO MY DOCTOR, SURE GLAD YOU KNOW MY FEELING OF SHAME. I TRIED SO HARD TO MAKE IT ALL WORK LIKE THE REST OF THE PEOPLE. MAYBE I WAS LOOKING FOR THE SO CALLED EASY WAY OUT WHICH WE BOTH KNOW ISN'T THE CASE.
I WILL TRY TO GET MORE CALORIES IN AND SEE IF THAT HELPS. I DO WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT EVEN THO I HAVEN'T SEEN MY SURGEON MY PCP HAS DONE MY BLOOD WORK PER MY NUTRITIONIST REQUEST, SO I DO NO THAT AT THIS POINT IN TIME MY BLOOD WORK LOOKS GOOD, OTHER THEN OSTEO ARITHRITS AND POSSIBLE HYPOGLYCIMEA.. I NEED TO DO A 2 HOUR FASTING TEST. MY NUTRISTIONIST SAID NO 3 HOUR GLUCOSE TEST DUE TO DUMPING.
I BETTER SEE MY SURGEON LIKE YOU ADVISED AND SEE WHAT WE CAN DO. I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO GO IN AND HAVE THE REVISION BUT IF THE POUCH IS STRETCHED I WILL. I WOULD HATE TO STOP NOW WITH THE WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE AND KINDNESS. I WILL SEE WHAT HE THINKS. THANKS FOR WANTING ME TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOU. YOUR A REAL TRUE OH SUPPORTER.
HOPE TO HAVE NEWS FOR YOU REAL SOON.
MUCH LOVE MY FRIEND
TAKE CARE AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND A BETTER TOMORROW.

Hi Jodi and thanks for the love......First i definitely think you should see your doctor because there are test he can order to see if you have indeed stretched your pouch. plus you want to check you blood work in any case that's important to monitor your blood work.....I know the feeling of being ashamed trust me I do...but you have to let go of that and go foward....I don't know if a revision is necessary for you at this point you only have about 40 or so lbs to lose but if you really feel like would benifit you talk it over with your surgeon to see what he say....i don't think you need it but i'm not the doctor and your pouch could very well have been stretched out....I don't however think you are getting enough calories in for each day 500 don't sound right at all...and believe it or not if you don't get enough calories it can and will stop your weight loss. you also need to talk to a nutritionist...so that he/she can tell you what you should be getting in everyday based on your weight and what not I wish you the best and please keep in touch and let me know how it goes

HI TEMA,
BEFORE I GET STARTED, THE REASON I TYPE IN CAPS IS THAT MY GLASSES ARE LIKE 8 YEARS OLD, AND THEY ARE NOT WORKING SO GOOD. TYPING IN CAPS HELPS ME TO SEE WHAT I AM TYPING. PLEASE DON'T THINK I AM YELLING. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE EMAIL ME AND TELL ME I SHOULDN'T DO THAT AND TO STOP OR I SHOULDN'T POST.... SO I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET YOU KNOW IN ADVANCE.
I KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW ME, BUT I JUST FEEL LIKE YOU ARE THE PERSON TO ASK.
NOW IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE TALKING TO ME ABOUT THIS POST PLEASE DO NOT WORRY AS I WILL UNDERSTAND.
I JUST HAPPENED UPON THIS BOARD TODAY. I AM ALWAYS ON THE CALIFORNIA BOARD. I HAVE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT MY POUCH AND WEATHER OR NOT I MAY HAVE STRETCHED IT OUT. I AM 53 YEARS OLD AND HAD MY SURGERY IN SEPT OF 2004. I HAVE NEVER REACHED MY GOAL OF 125 OR EVEN THE DR.S GOAL OF 140 LBS. I TOO REALLY FEEL LIKE I HAVE FAILED AT THIS.
I DID GET DOWN TO 153 BUT QUICKLY WENT BACK UP TO 167 LBS. I STARTED AT 270. I KNOW I HAVE ALSO PUT THE INCHES BACK ON. I SO DON'T WANT TO PUT BACK ALL THE WEIGHT AND INCHES I HAVE TAKEN OFF.
I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS A CERTAIN WEIGHT ONE HAS TO BE AT BEFORE THE SURGEON WILL CONSIDER YOU FOR A REVISION. I HAVE NOT SEEN MY SURGEON IN ALMOST A YEAR AS I REALLY FEEL ASHAMED THAT I DID NOT REACH HIS GOAL..
I DON'T EAT MUCH AT ALL. I DO DRINK 4 TO 5 PROTEIN SHAKES A DAY TO MAKE SURE I GET MY PROTEIN IN. SOMETIMES I KNOW I DON'T GET EVEN 500 CALORIES A DAY IN. SO IT'S NOT THAT I OVER EAT.
MOST OF THE TIME I AM NOT HUNGRY AT ALL. UNFORTUNATELY I DON'T DUMP ON SUGAR EITHER, WELL SOMETIMES I HAVE. FOR THE MOST PART I DON'T.
DO YOU THINK I SHOULD ASK THE SURGEON IF I NEED A REVISION. I REALLY WANT TO GET THE REST OF THIS WEIGHT OFF. OR DO YOU THINK THAT MY AGE HAS PLAYED A FACTOR IN THE WHOLE WEIGHT LOSS THING
.
WHAT DO YOU THINK AND DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ME? ANYTHING THAT YOU COULD TELL ME WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CONTINUES SUCCESS WITH YOUR JOURNEY.
TAKE CARE

MUCH LOVE TO YOU FROM YOUR OH SURGERY SISTER.

Topic: RE: Question
Hi Shannon-
My typical day is:
Morning - Iced Latte with skim milk and protein powder (I can't eat first thing or I get nausous) sp?
Mid-Morning snack - nuts or cheese stick or cotage cheese
Lunch - weigh****chers, lean cuisine, or turkey chili
afternoon snack- triscuits, wheat thins, ets (really need to replace this with a protein choice)
Dinner - same as lunch most days - sometimes a grilled hamburg, chicken breast, or fish if I actually cook -LOL!
Obviously if I were totally honest I snack other times as well since I have gained 10 lbs in the past year. I really need to get that under control so I don't do anymore damage. So the above is my goal each day - just doesn't seem to work out that way lately. HTH Teri
