Topic: Possible stricture at 17 months
First of all - I can't believe it's 17 months since I had this wonderful surgery and am amazed at the changes. I started with feeling and being that I would be good and compliant - but then again I have the fat brain and have messed up a bit - though I have not gained (thank God). Things since surgery - had my gallbladder taken out and recently had my tonsils taken out (they were bothering me so bad that I didn't want to leave them alone). So I barely ate during that time and was taking my medication for the pain (liquid codeine). And all of a sudden started having some incredible abdominal pains with increasing duration when I tried to eat regular foods. 5 episodes with the last having to call 911 (I'll spare ya the details) and that episode was over 4 hours long!! So I waited for the Monday after the Saturday that I had my episode and called my surgeon's office and they had me come in and I spoke to Dr. Overcash. And he ordered a CT scan and an endoscopy (pending to happen 3/8) to find out what is happening but when the nurse came in...said it was a stricture. So now Im on week 3 of soft foods and liquids and so far as I stay that way I'm doing good but if I try to eat anything heavier I have pain. My non-medical friends' medical opinion is that I have a ulcer....but I'm gonna believe my doc...and stick it out and see what the scope says - cause I know the pain is REAL!!!!!!!!!
This is certainly odd....if anything!! And I'm going crazy with the "diet". Imagine when you're a newbie ya hear people how tired they get out of the liquid/soft food stage - and Im on week 3 at 17months...so I could use a hug...

I Know!!!!!!!!!! I decided to see how my fellow Sept buddies are since I usually stay on the Florida boards or RNY/Post op boards. I have been pretty good the vitamins though I do forget sometimes...but have slipped on the chocalates/candy since Oct and am back on the soda though not as much as I used to. It's a hard process..and I try to stay focus and work out at home. Since surgery had a gallbladder surgery and now recently had a tonsillectomy and was on medication - and recently have developed - what the nurse keeps saying is a stricture!! Can u imagine at restricture at 17 months??? Dag - I can't believe it's 17 months!!! Anyway..now Im curious cause I did the barium test and I was able to drink 40 oz (though slowly) andthe CT was normal but still have the situation - so next week I get scoped to have the doc see clearly whas up cause I had a 911 emergency (or so I thought) and yet they did nothing in the hospital. The stabbing pain is in my abdomin and the last episode i had for 4 hours with vomiting, dizziness and sweats..and now I see the last post - but I don't think it's an obstruction..I am able to drink liquids and light stuff...but anything heavier..i get pain...my friends say it's an ulcer but the doc's office says a stricture...I guess i'll know more when i have the scope but now it's been 3 weeks on "liquids" and am going crazy!!

Missed you. Keep up the good work and things will be back to losing again. I had a bowel obstruction which released it's self without surgery. This all happen last weekend.Between the Ct scan. Endoscopy and Small bowel barrium studies I realized we are really different inside and must remember to be careful and stay on the plan. When I saw my pouch it was tiny--4sips of the barrium and it was full. I had been drinking with my meals and did not realize how little it held. Please take care of yourselfs.
It is not unheardof to have problems similar to mine when you have lost a great deal of weight. Remember you organs also get smaller and bowel twist and pinches can happen. This surgery was permanent. My weight has not gone up but I exercise regularly. I'm scheduled for lower body PS in one month. Self pay. Any one with advise please email me. I'm scared especially since the problems last weekend. The obstruction came on with vomiting and extreme abd pain that did not let up. You did not have to wonder if something had happen to you. It was painful for several hours. If anyone wants to know more email..I'm not a good writer So this may not be clear. Dollie-girl

All day long LOL Well by that I mean morning, then afternoon and then night but I am not as overly nuts about it as I was in the beginning. If the scale goes up a little I don't care. I just wish I could jump start the loss again. I am kind of at a stand still. It is driving me nuts.

Clothing needed for Ohio family.

I have been so busy trying to get this Extreme makeover home invasion pulled together for my friend Patty that I am plum tuckered out. If anyone is interested in helping with some gently used items for this needy family it would certainly be appreciated. Patty is my neighbor *****cently lost her funding for home health care, and a home health aid. She is homebound and super morbidly obese and can no longer move around. She is responsible for caring for her adult mentally retarded brother and is having real difficulties doing so. I have been working with all my gastric bypass support groups to collect size 6 x women's clothing and size 55 jeans and 3 x shirts for her brother Leonard. They are in desperate need of gently used towels, wash clothes, dish clothes, and personal care items. Baby wipes and Gold bond powder. Toothpaste, shampoo and toothbrushes as well. Since becoming homebound Patty has gotten very depressed and suffers greatly from celulitis and chronic severe lymphadema . I have been helping as much as I can by doing her grocery shopping, cleaning, and laundry. When I was doing their laundry that is when I discovered that all of their clothes were stained badly and torn apart. Even at this size, these people deserve the dignity of having decent clothing on their bodies. They are unable to afford personal care items like shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, Laundry soap, bath soap etc. They are both in need of undergarments and socks. Patty wears size 6 x and Leonard wears size 55 jeans and size 3 x crew neck T shirts. Since they are homebound any magazines, paperback books, Music CDs and used DVD's would be greatly appreciated. Next Saturday March the I have arranged for a group of volunteers to help deliver these items, and we will clean their home from top to bottom. I have a local beautician who will give them both haircuts, manicures and a day of beauty treatments while we are busy scrubbing and doing laundry etc. I am feeling so blessed by being able to do this for this wonderful dear lady. She is just my age and suffering so badly. I wish that I could convince her to look into gastric bypass surgery, but that has to be her choice. I guess what I am trying to do by "project Patty" is to show her the kindness of complete strangers and that people care about her.and that with the love and support that she can return to life outside of her living room again.
I thank you all for listening and hope that you can help by sending any items that you can find around the house that they might be able to use. If you are interested in helping or just sending a card of encouragement please write and ask for my home address. Please pass this information along to anyone who might have gently used items to contribute to help make this project a huge success. If you are interested in being on the cleaning crew please contact me as soon as possible We need all the hands and strong able bodies we can get to help with some spring cleaning and delivering the clothing etc. We are also in need of someone who knows how to hook up a dvd/vcr player up to an older television set. Thank you all for your help. I knew I could count on you to help make this happen.
Lots of Love and Hugs,
Laura
I thank you all for your help.
