Good luck Marianne!
I've been trying to get people at work to walk at lunch with me and all I get is 'I will, but not today' so I do it myself. It's great that those you work with want it to be more of a team effort. I can see where a newbie would definately have the unfair advantage! LOL!

A group of women at work decided to start a weight loss group. Each week it will cost $2.00 to weigh in and if you gain weight it will cost you an additional $1.00. I thought I too would get on the bandwagon and really focus on losing the 10 lbs I gained plus to lose an additional 5 lbs to get me to MY final goal. Then on the last day of school the person who lost the most weight would win the $$$$ pot. Well, get this--I was told I COULD NOT JOIN BECAUSE I DON'T NEED TO LOSE MORE WEIGHT! The first time in my life I was denied something because I am now at a "normal" weight. This annoyed me a bit while also feeling totally flattered, so I explained that I am no longer in the honeymoon period and that now I have to continue to work and fight just like everyone else to lose every single pound. I even explained that I am NOT in this for the $$$ but rather want to do this for me and for the incentive of doing this with the rest of my coworkers. The committee (my friends at work) felt that if I want to lose weight I too should be able to join just like the rest of them. The only rule they established was that if anyone was definately going to HAVE WLS they could not join for the $$$ aspect until AFTER the honeymoon phase of post op, because it would not be fair to everyone else. The first official weigh in begins on Monday and continues on till the end of June. Maybe now I will finally be able to get rid of those craving demons for good!
Wish me luck!

You are doing great!!. As the person said before you realize you are doing wrong and can correct it. Now that we are no longer big, we kind of forget about ever being big. I have been stuck on 172 for the past 3 months and am going crazy. My energy is low and I have fallen off the wagon so to speak. So, now we must jump back on the wagon and do everything we were taught to do.
I need to exercise more and boost my protein. I hate the protein shakes, but I can't or don't like most meats so I am struggling to get that protein in. Everything is so expensive too. What can we do besides continue to take one day at a time.
Keep up the good work and check back with me if you would like. I had my surgery on 09/16/04 in Evansville and have lost 111 lbs. I want to get rid of at least 42 more lbs. My stomach has been the hardest thing to get rid of the weight.
Take care and good luck.

Topic: RE: I'm SO confused! HAAAAALLLLLPPPPP!!!
Good morning. Just had a hernia repair, (bigger they ever saw) and a tummy tuck on 03/17/06. I was in the hospital for 20 hours with my gastric bypass and back to work in 2 days. This was a little different. I was in the hospital for 2 nights. I came back to work in 2 1/2 weeks which was probably a bit soon but I refused to use vacation at home while I got better. It is a little rough but every day you feel better. I went from a size 12 to a size 8 after my surgery and I still have a lot of swelling. I will keep you in my prayers. You will do great!!!

Amy,
Sounds to me like you have the biggest problem licked. You know what you are doing wrong. I keep track of everything in Fitday.com. I had asked my dietician how much of whatever I should be getting (and to still lose weight with). For the exercise I get (~5 miles/day walking), I was told the following:
1200-1400 calories (1000-1200 if I didn't walk so much)
less than 30 g fat
more than 30 g fiber (yeah, right!)
more than 100 g carb
80-100 g protein (because I'm hypoglycemic, need extra protein)
You may want to ask your dietician what would be right for you for your particular medical needs. I'm at the point of doing all of that (except having trouble getting in enough fiber) but not seeing it in the scales. Seeing it in clothes some though so I believe my body is losing fat...but gaining heavier muscles.

Topic: survey help
Hi-My name is Martha Dunn. I am completing my doctoral degree at Antioch New England Graduate School. My dissertation research project explores post bariatric surgery behavior, struggles and needs. If you have 10-15 minutes to complete the survey, it would be a big help to me. Also, if you have friends who've also had the surgery and could forward this message to them, that would be great. More in-depth details are on the link that follows and thank you in advance.

had my surgery and wanst so bad the first day but the 2 nd day the pain got out of control. Am better now. Am home and getting around more.
I was sort pf discouraged at first got on the scales after getting home and saw a gain. I talked wth the Dr and he said it was from the swelling. Will haved to wait a few days to see the real results. Thanks for all the prayers. Now comes the hard part to keep off the weight...Louann
