Hi Shannon...Congrats again on the pregnancy. I would be very happy to answer all questions you have. I gained 30 lbs in this pregnancy. It was very difficult for me to watch the scales go up. I was at the same exact weight as you (167) and now I weigh 171 and my Lilly is 5 weeks old. I do nurse, not sure if thats a plus, because they say it helps lose weight, but I am starving ALL the time because of it...lol. I didn't gain anything until I was about 6 months. Then it was in huge amounts. For example, I had gained nothing, then three weeks later I had gained 12 lbs. The only crazy thing that happened to me that they really thought was because the WLS, was I became hypoglycemic. I would experience these crazy episodes where my bottom lip would turn numb (I know....crazy) and I would get very hot, then my hands would start to shake and I would become ravenous...(I mean I could have eaten someone's arm). Finally, I told my OB about it and they sent me home with a little finger ***** monitor, and sure enough, my blood sugars were dropping into the 30s when these would happen. I was put on a diet of mostly carbs. I would have to eat 35 carbs every 2 hours. Thats why I think I gained so much weight. Honestly, I have not tried to lose anything, it just came off. I also had WLS in September of 2004. Please let me know if there's anything else you want to know. I am SUPER happy for you, I know you have been TTC for a while. BTW...Check out our family website. Lilly's is actually the only update . Hubby plans on getting to it soon. The "most recent family picture on the front page was actually taken in 2003, pre WLS. LOL Take care..and please keep me posted! Sherry www.thepichas.com

wow 30 pounds. That isn't bad at all. Your right though, watching the scale go up is going to freak me out. I am trying to mentally prepare myself now saying over and over it is for the baby relax. My mom thinks everyone is waiting for me to gain a crap load of weight but she thinks it's insane cause having this surgery kind of won't allow me to gain 80 pounds like I basically did with my daughter. Right now almost everything I put in my mouth makes me gag but I still eat cause if not I would never eat. I get dizzy a lot everytime I stand. My clothes seem to be getting tight in the belly area but I also lost 3 pounds in this last month so I guess it is all body changes due to the baby. I would love to gain baby and not weight. LOL I will definetly keep the whole hypoglycemic issue in mind just so I know what to look for if something like that occurs. The finger ***** I could live with out but we gotta do what we gotta do. I plan on trying to breastfeed but due to inverted nipples who knows. I wasn't succesful with my daughter but I still pumped for 6 months. I wonder if loosing the weight helped in that area any. I know having such a huge stomach and a c-section didn't make it easy to even try last time. I saw the pictures and posted on your other post. She is so adorable and so alert. Congrats you make beautiful babies. Thanks again for answering all of my questions. I appreciate you taking the time out. Shannon

Dan, If you are a patient man, you can get an RNY in Ontario in one to six years, a lapband self pay in Ontario for $15K-$17K and have surgery in a few weeks, or do an OCC application to OHIP and get a more experienced surgeon than any in Ontario and have an RNY or the duodenal switch (DS) in the US with essentially no wait list. Some Doctors like Dr. O'Malley in Rochester will take about six months to complete pre-op testing and clearances. Most, like my surgeon will have you under the knife in two to three weeks. I am not a patient man and I wanted the best surgeon, thats why I went to the US. After considerable research I wanted the DS and nothing but the DS. I did not want to have WLS and have any significant chance of gaining the weight back. The clinical studies are clear, the DS has the best statistics for long-term excess weight loss. I suggest you gear up your research and seriously explore the US option. We will all help you get approved. Go for it, but know your options, the risks, and benefits before you go through with surgery. David Duodenal Switch June 22, 2005 Dr. Marek Lutrzykowski Bloomfield Hills (Detroit) Michigan 399/229/?

Hi there Dan, unfortunately the only thing that got things moving quicker for me was my failing health. Until that happened I was going nowhere in a hurry. But with increased risk of tissue damage and possible death it seems to get them moving along quicker. If the form is filled properly , you shouldn't have any probs for ooc. Just a suggestion, don't call them up. I never called them at all, and was approved in four days. So things do have a way of working out, just need a little patience, lol. Take care and good luck, Dean

Amybee, I know how you feel, and I am searching through here looking for someone having the same problem, and I came across your post. Thank you so much for sharing. That helped me just reading that I was not alone. I too understand what I am doing wrong, I just need to remotivate myself. I had surgery on 9/30/04 and have lost about 111 lbs. I want to lose about 30 more, but right now, being hung at this one point scares me so bad! Maybe we can encourage one another. Thanks again for sharing. Debbie Golden
