Abdominal Pains
I just realized that there is a 9/2004 message board. Maybe you all can help. Has any one had any problems with abdominal pains? I mean incapacitating pains? It has happened to me twice and this last time I had to go to the ER only to find out that labs were fine and the only thing that the xrays showed were stool in my intestines BUT I am having BM's just about daily. The pain was so bad this last time that I had nausea, profuse sweating and dizziness. If anyone has had this happen I would love to hear from you. I am really very scared. I have follow up with my surgeon and family MD next week but the last time I talked to the surgeons office they said it can't be surgery related if I am having BM's. Thanks for listening and any input would be appreciated.
Hi Joy,
Welcome to the 9/2004 board! I'm glad you found it. It is so nice to read what others at the same juncture of this process are experiencing as we go through all of these changes. Yes-I have the same problem with the excruciating abdominal pain. I did the whole call the dr thing too, and they said that after WLS, we can experience unbelievable gas pains because of the way we have been "rerouted" inside. My dr has me take two or three extra strength TUMS and two extra strength anti-gas CHEWABLES and walk around a little *****as to be the chewables or liquid to act fast,) and it really seems to help. The first time this happened to me was about 3 months ago, and I had to have my hubby pull over the car so I could get out and straighten out and walk awhile. I was literally crying and sobbing it hurt so bad. The second time was today actually, and I did the TUMS/anti-gas chewables and walked around and it passed way quicker. I'm not a doc of course, so I can't say this is what you're experiencing, but when this happened to me the first time I was terrified! I thought I had torn something or my staple line had ruptured. I hope this helps.
Blessings, Tonya

welcome to this board...YES YES YES....i have had horrid horrid pains...puts me in mind of gall bladder pain..though mine was removed 28 years ago....i have been to the E.R. twice had many tests run...even exploratory surgery and nothing....now we are trying that i have spasms in my intestines and a new med...the new med worked once for me and not the next time...even liquid vicoden has not eased the pain for me at times..or at the E.R. a shot of morphine did not dull it...this pain last for hours and hours...and i have noticed it happens on the days i seem to have pottied more than normal...or gone more than once that day...some times it just last a short time..but others nothing i seem to do to help it...
I can sympathiza with you, I had those same pains back in 3/05, and thought I was going to die. Much like you I had the cold sweat, was doubled over in pain. Went to the hospital, had an x-ray and MRI, there was nothing there. I believe that it was a combination of gastritis and constipation. After that incident i included prunes in my daily menu and that helped. I haven't had those pains since.
My mom had horrible pain like that even though she was having regular BM's, and she found out that she has an adhesion from a former surgery that keeps her bowel from emptying completely. When the doctor did her Colonoscopy to find out what was going on, he had to "vaccuum" her intestines out to get rid of it all. They had done that "massive bowel prep" too, but that did not completely empty her. Now, she takes a "double dose" of Milk of Magnesia EVERY night to make sure that she stays cleaned out. Sorry if this is "too much information" and that it was a little "graphic". This is a "delicate" subject!!
I'm certainly not recommending that you start taking Milk of Magnesia, but you might ask your doctor about the possibility of adhesions. Hope your feeling better. Pam
