Summertime Backyard Cravings

Hi Everyone I am rather embarassed to post this message and ask not to be flamed. I am trying to get out of C-H-E-A-T-I-N-G! I have found or should I say that my pouch and I have discovered that WE can cheat and get away with it. It is very easy to acomplish this with BBQ's and summer parties. What I need to know is now that I have cheated and discovered that yes, I can eat sweets without dumping, and eat the cheese puffs and pretzels and develop a craving for ice cream. I know, I know, it sounds like I am a total failure! I really am not. I still watch what I eat, I maintain getting in my waters & proteins. I stay away from breads, pastas, fats but it is just recently since going to parties that my problem has developed. Now, how can I break the cravings for this crappy junk? Do I need to start all over again from the beginning? I just want to be able to break the craving cycle. I wish I would dump because then it would be easier than being a backyard BBQ junkie. I am sure that with these summer months we have all been there. Like I said above I do not need to be flamed because I know I was wrong and am so trying to kick what could become a habit. I need help before it is too late. I have lost 113 lbs and I am 2 pounds away from Dr.s goal. I have NOT gained back any weight and this is what I am trying to avoid. I want to get back to eating nothing but healthy. Thanks for your help! Marianne

You need to remember how miserable and how heavy you were prior to wls. Get your mind in focus and realise putting that crap ( for lack of a better word ) in your mouth and the small satisfaction you get from it , is SOOOOOOOOO not worth the end result. Get sugar free stuff. You have to remember to train your mind as well as your body I always say. LIFE long change. Anyone can defeat the beast if they put their mind to it

Hey Marianne - I can TOTALLY relate! I have been cheating bigtime this summer as well. Well, maybe "bigtime" is an exaggeration. It's really a bite of this and a bite of that of totally forbidden foods, and they TASTE so good! I think for me the big problem is that everyone tells me how great I look and I look like a "normal" person so I end up eating like a normal person. BUT I am 16 pounds from goal and I want to get there sooner rather than later. Summertime has been hard, lots of parties every weekend and ordering delivery at the pool, etc. My strategy this week has been to go back to protein shakes and 1 1/2 meals a day just to get my cravings under control. It's working. I have a South Beach meal replacement bar for breakfast, 210 cal approximately and 19 grams of protein and 3 carbs. Then I drink drink drink all day. For dinner I'm having a 6 oz can of salmon or tuna or grilled fish or chicken breast and veggies. That's it. Except at the end of the day I always have a cup of tea with a packet of Splenda and 2 SF cookies. I'll do this til I reach my goal. My eating has never been out of control since my surgery, just not as disciplined as it should be. So go back to basics and write everything down if you have to and you will get back in control! Good luck! XO Sandy 268/152/136
