Be careful, Jo.... We can develope a blocked bowel anytime. If you are in significant pain, it wouldn't hurt to give your doc a call. If you aren't passing gas, start throwing up or the pain gets even worse, head to your emergency room! I had to quit using suppositories as they wouldn't work anymore for me. I put 4-6 tablespoons of benefiber in my drinks throughout the day and take 4-6 stool softners (not laxatives) a day. I may only go 2 times a week, but then it's not painful. Good luck and be careful!!! Beth

I can totally relate to what you posted. I seem to be gassy all the time and the constipation is a constant battle. I take the colace almost daily, but have resorted to taking ex-lax at least once a week to really clean myself out and feel half-normal. I've tried all types of fiber powders and pills, but none have worked for me thus far. Constipation is horrible, but at least it's private. The gas is the biggest problem for me because there's usually no warning and there's no guarantee that it will be silent and non-toxic! I'll be watching your post to see if anyone can offer any "fixes" for these problems.

I have been taking sugar-free Citrucel everyday. It seems to help with my constipation. Every now and then I have to take a laxative, but I don't like to. When I do, I try to use either a chewable like ex-lax, or there's some kind called Fleet where you put drops in some water and drink it. Also, you can try eating prunes, or some other kind of fruit. Raisin bran or some other high bran, high fiber cereal might also help. Good luck!!!

Jo, I have constipation also. I take Senokot-S and it seems to help. I try to eat a salad every day. If it gets really bad, I take milk of magnesia. Good luck! Lynn J., lap RNY 9/29/04 -118 lbs.
