Vitamins . . . Again!

I talked to a nutritionist yesterday, she was NOT much help. Just said if my labs were OK to keep doing what I was doing! I expected a more proactive answer. She didn't seem concerned. She said if there's a problem I'll know it. Well, that seemed kind of ignorant, I don't want to wait til I'm showing signs of deficiency to make corrections. So, here's my plan, please feel free to comment or make suggestions: First thing when I wake up: 1 VITRON C Tablet (I know it says take with food but I think that's in case you get an upset tummy and that has not been a problem.) A few hours later: 2 CITRACAL tablets (630 mg) After breakfast: 1 MULTIVITAMIN, 1 BIOTIN After lunch: 1 MULTIVITAMIN, 1 SUPER B COMPLEX, 1 BIOTIN Mid afternoon: 2 CITRACAL tablets After dinner: 1 MULTIVITAMIN, 1 BIOTIN Mid evening: 2 CITRACAL tablets Before bedtime: 1 RANITIDINE tablet (acid reducer) Thanks for any advice! Hugs, Sandy

Good for you for being proactive!!! Stay on your doc and nutritionist because like you said... you don't want to treat a problem when you can prevent one!!! It sounds like you have it covered except I don't see any B12 on your list. We were told to take a B complex and add B12 (either the sublingual or the monthly injection) because the part of our tummies that absorb the b12 is no longer available to us... My routine has fewer meds (4 calciums, 2 multivits, 1 biotin/day) but each doc is different in what they want. Good luck and keep the fire lit under the nuts butt!!! wanda

Wanda - Thanks SO much for responding, I really 'preciate it! Thanks for pointing out the B-12, you are truly on the ball, haha! I get a B-12 shot every 4 weeks at my doctor's support group, 2nd Monday of every month, less hassle then another prescription to deal with! So we are practically neighbors! I love Leesburg, especially the shopping! We usually try to take the ferry over. We should meet up for lunch sometime? Thanks again for the feedback and one other quick question: does your doctor want your labs done once a year or every 6 months? I think mine calls for once a year but I would feel better with 6 months. Hugs, Sandy

Hey sweetie, Thats funny that you mentioned the ferry. I have lived here for just over a year and 2 weeks ago I found the ferry and took it across the river... ( I live between the ferry and the outlet mall) went to your neck of the woods and did a little shopping... Burlington Coat Factory... Lunch sounds great.. just let me know and I'll see what I can do... I work a wacky schedule (nurse on nite shift). Just wanted to give you an FYI... you mentioned that B12 was "another prescription to deal with". I get mine at the Vitamin Shoppe and for 3 mos supply its about $5-6 bucks... tiny little pill, cherry flavored, non-gritty. I'd much rather do that than a shot every month. (I'd much rather give them than receive them!!!LOL) Let me know about lunch...I'm always ready to eat!!! Even if its just a few ounces!!! huggles wanda

Hi, Sandy! Sorry so slow to respond to your post but I was "pondering" something... YOUR vitamin regimen includes much more than what I take. Truly, at first, when I read yours, I instantly thought, "Oh my! I'm not taking enough compared to Sandy!!! Maybe I should _________ (fill in the blank)" This journey is so unique--and so are each one of us, our specific surgeries and our physicians. Our surgeons have been watching the labs from their post-op patients long enough to know what works for their patients... I waited to post this as I knew I was going to have some labwork done...and my labs are all fine. What I'm doing is working for me but it may not be what someone else needs. Isn't it frustrating this whole vitamin/supplement thing seems so complicated and too many gray areas??? But when you think about it, nothing in medicine is completely black and white! Take care and let how you feel and your labwork be your guide! Beth
