Post OP MRIs. Safe or what?
MRIs.
Ok, So I fell and busted my arse in my hubby's work parking lot the other day. I landed on my right knee and hand. DH insisted I go to the doc to have my knees checked out. They did x-rays..no broken bones, but my knee is catching very badly and giving out...usually means torn cartilage. I have been through this all before. My knees are awful! Doc has scheduled an MRI on both knees.
My question is...are MRIs safe to get after surgery. I know only my knees will still be in the machine, but it makes me nervous with all those magnetic fields swarming around. I am going to call my surgeon. I hope my staples are titanium(non-metalic) and not steel...just wondered if anyone has had an MRI since surgery.

You should be ok... just double check with surgeon to ensure titanium (which most are these days) and also let the MRI folks know you have internal staples. Just as an FYI... leave all jewelry at home (or in the car).. these places usually don't have secure lockers... just a changing room. Hope the knee gets better... I have a bum one as well and trying to baby it as much as I can.
