YES--ANOTHER one of those HAIR LOSS questions!
Happy Easter Everyone---Hope you are all enjoying your day. My family and I just got back from having dinner out and let me tell you the house is clean, and NO DISHES to clean! I must admit though--today I pigged out and did cheat a bit but tomorrow is another day and I plan on getting right back on the bandwagon. I did not cheat with candy but rather tasting a few of those Italian pastries and the strawberry shortcake my daughter had for dessert and oh, the home made biscuits that came with dinner. Now I am sitting here listening to some growling sounds. I am not upset because I always stay on track and for one special day to go off the wagon I don't think is too bad or worrisome!
Now--for my question-
I started losing my hair rather late at about 5 months out but nothing really to get upset about. My daughter tells me she loses more than me each day when she washes her hair in the shower, but it is annoying to me. What I would like to know is about how long does this whole hair loss process usually last? I know everyone is different but just to have a ball park idea. I hope it ends soon because the annoying part of it all is constantly cleaning the hair from my comb and countertop.
Thanks!
Going to relax now--one good thing is at least I didn't have to come home and get out of my clothes because I was uncomfortable. I am proud to say that I am not full but satisfied!

Marianne,
Mine has been falling out for about 6 weeks.....and according to the dieticians I go to, that is the average time that the mass exodus from the scalp lasts. They started me on Biotin. It's a water soluable B-Vitamin that is suppose to help with hair & nail growth. I take it religeously.

Tonya,
My dieticians recommended 300 mcg/day. I'm the kind that likes to pick up 2-3 bottles of whatever at a time so I don't have to worry about running out. The store I went to only had 1 bottle of 300 mcg so I bought it. And when I went to another store, the only dosage they had at all was 1500 mcg. So...I bought one of them too. I figured I'd take it first to jump-start my hair growth and then switch to the 300 mcg when I run out of them. I would guess since it's a B-vitamin also that it will be like the B-12 is in that you can't take too much...your body washes out what it doesn't need.

My hair loss started at about 3.5 months I think and was PROFUSE for about 2 weeks. I was getting scared!! But then it slowed waaaayyyyy down and is pretty normal at this point I would guess. I may still be losing a "little" more than usual, but nothing to be concerned about!!
Sounds like you did fine at the Easter lunch. I am glad that you are not afraid to "splurge" a little, but KNOW that you can get right back with the program. I did not eat too much food, but I have eating a few too many chocolate eggs!!!
Marianne,
My hair started falling out around the 3 1/2 month mark and lasted for a good month and a half. I told my surgeon I was taking Biotin but didn't see much improvement. He suggested I start taking Flax Seed Oil and within a week or so of using it, it just all but stopped! I get it at Wal-Mart and take two 1200 mg. soft gel caps a day (not together though). I take one in the morning and the second one in the afternoon. He said the Omega oils are what helps. You could always check with your doctor to make sure he/she says it is ok, but that's what I did and it made a wonderful difference!
Good luck!
