Is anyone else going through this?

Hi there, I know how you feel. From as early as 2 months out I have been able to eat just about anything. Before my surgery I NEVER ate chocolate, but now it seems that I need a litttle bit several times a week. My weight loss has been going good. My surgery was on Sept 1st, My weight before surgery was 331 and i'm at 238. I can't complain with that at all! Getting back to your question, I feel sometimes that i'm cheating, but I try and look at it like this, I'm still loosing weight, and there is NO COMPARISON to what I eat now and what I ate before. Before I would sit down for dinner and have a HUGE BOWL of pasta covered in cheese, garlic bread with cheese and meatballs, then desert 30 min later! Now, a small piece of salmon and some veggies is my dinner. Later in the evening if I have a bite of something sweet I shouldn't and don't feel guilty. There are certain things that I wont even indulge in like Fast food (fried Foods). I have come to realize that this IS a lifetime comitment and if I want this to work and want to keep from going crazy then having something now and then shouldn't be a big deal! AS LONG AS YOU KEEP THE FRAME OF MIND THAT IT IS NOT OK TO HAVE IT ALL THE TIME. I hope this helps -Steve

I really think the key is quantity of food. Like everyone else has pointed out we ate WAY more before surgery. So, if we're able to eat a little more now, it's still WAY less than we used to eat. If we eat sweets, we're not eating the whole box of donuts. I haven't ventured into sweets too much. About all I've done is take a taste of something every now and then. I find that if I'm craving it and take a little bite I realize I don't really want a whole lot. When you think about it, all we're craving is the taste anyway. So, here's an idea, what about tasting it and then spitting it out instead of swallowing. I know it sounds gross but it's not on the hips or waist line then is it? I've done this a couple of times with meat I thought I wanted and when I got it in my mouth realized if I swallowed it I would wreak havoc with my system, so I chewed and enjoyed the taste and spit it into a napkin and straight to the trash instead of my hips!

Everyone has made such good points in their posts. It has really been helpful. I am definitely a micro-manager and sometimes I am just too up-tight. Reading y'alls thoughts and encouraging words has really helped me to see I need to not be so hard on myself. Thanks & Keep Losing!! -Katie
