Hi all, I just had a friend ask me to be in her wedding on July 30th of this year. I have to go get fitted soon and I have no idea what size I will be then (hopefuly, smaller). Does anyone have any ideas on how to approach this one? Thanks ~Sherry~

Oh my gosh, too funny, I was asked to be a bridesmaid for a July 30th wedding too! We just chose a dress two weeks ago. The store is a national chain (David's Bridal) and when we explained the situation, they said they would order a dress in the size that was our best guess, and if they needed to swap it for another size at the last minute, they could have a dress from the same dye-lot rush-delivered. The saleslady did not seem concerned at all. I have to tell you, it was so much fun trying on the dresses! Formal gowns run small, and it was amazing fitting into smaller sizes and actually feeling ok. My friends bridesmaids will range from a size 9 to a size 26 and they have dresses to fit us all. If you want to see pictures of the dresses we tried on, click on the www tab for this post (or from my profile) and I put them up there. We ended up going with the taupe colored one (The color is called LATTE ) Love, Sue

Pam, you made my day Thank you for your nice words! I have goofy expressions on my face in all the pics, but it was great not feeling like I had to wear a taffeta house for a dress. Hope you're having a good day too! (((hugs)))) ~Sue

Hey Sue, I just saw your dress pics. You look great! Also, the latte dresses were the same exact ones I used for my bridesmaids a year and a hal*****he only difference is mine were bright red (david's bridal calls it apple). Funny!! Keep on lookin good girl!! -Katie

OMG Sue...that is too funny that we both had GB on the same day and are also in weddings on the same day. I checked out your dresses and they are beautiful. You look AWESOME!! What was your best guess for the size you will be? Did you go one size down, or more? I really don't know what to do. I am so short too, so I know I will need the length altered, so I have to allow for time for that too. Oh well. Thanks for your reply. ~Sherry~

Hi Sherry, Parallel lives! Pamela is right about the the guesstimating on the size. I've been figuring if I lost 10 lbs the month before last, then 8 last month, I'll probably lose at least 7 this month, and at least 5 next month, etc. That's how I figured out where I think I'll be. But even though we chose the dresses, the lady said we don't have to actually order till April. So that gives us a bit more time to see. I'll definitely need alterations on the length as well. I am a size 14 in a formal dress right now. I weigh 165. I lost 8 lbs last month, so, if I follow the pattern above, I should be about 140 lbs in 5 months. That would probably be a size 9. We could always go up a size to be safe. Plus remember, I am a SLOW loser, and I may just slow down some more. I am short also, so I will probably go with a size 11 and assume I'll need alterations no matter what. (hopefully, I'll lose at a better rate than I've estimated) How fast has your weight loss been going? Good luck, and I'm excited for you! You'll have to take some pics too and share them. Definitely let me know how the try-on day goes for you- ~Sue

I would kinda sorta figure it this way... You are probably going to lose about ten lbs. per month (so at least 50 more lbs. by July) and "they say" that each 15 lbs. is one size. So, I would got about 3 sizes smaller than I am wearing right now as my "best guess". Just make sure that they have a good alterations person who can "adjust" things as need be or that they can order another size on short notice!! Congratulations on being chosen as a bridesmaid!!

Wow, that pretty cool but at the same time kind of nuts cause you have no idea what size you will be. I would make sure that where ever you get that dress from they have a free or at least added fitting fee. Just in case. Also I would try and get it like 2 sizes smaller right now. You only go for a few fittings I believe before the wedding. That way the dress will be cheaper if it isn't a plus size and if you got it 2 sizes smaller and lost say 4 sizes by then you'd only have to take it in 2 sizes and not 4. If that makes sence. Not really sure how it works cause i've only been a bride (and that was a JP), never a bridesmaid. LOL Best of luck and I hope you get some great pictures.... Shannon

Thanks all for the advice. Sue, I am also a slow loser. I started out at 271 lbs. and 5 ft. 3 inch. I am now sitting at 192....its seems like I have been there forever ~maybe the scale is stuck~ ! The pants I wore to school today were a size 16, but I vary between a 16 and an 18. It seems like I'm losing around 7 to 10 pounds a month too. I would kind of like to be around 135 to 145....wouldn't that be awesome if I would reach goal by the wedding! It almost seems unbelieveable. Honestly, I can't tell you how long it's been since I wore a size 16, so I should just be happy with where I am right now.....but.....I have absolutely no patience! I hope someday I'll get up enough nerve to post pictures but I am so used to dodging the camera, that I still hate to look at myself. Maybe when I hit the -100 lb. mark I'll have the guts to do it. Thanks again for the advice! ~Sherry~
