Strength Loss??
Hi every on I had RNY Lap distal on Sept. 9,2004 I am down 97 pounds to date and feeling more youthful and energetic by the day I am very happy with the way my progress is comming along but I have noticed in the last month especially that I have experienced some hair loss and a significant amount of loss in strength. I was wondering if any one else has experienced this same thing and would a gym membership and use of free weight remedy my situation along with increased protien intake.
Thank you Pj Manning
I have that hair problem and the strength issue. My hubby and I use to love to play wrestle but as I gained the weight it got harder. I was always able to hold my own though. Now everything hurt's and I can't win to save my life. My mom told me PCP told her I should strenght train. I know that but it would have been nice if he told me prior to surgery. I am working on trying to build it up but I feel weak. Not like I will pass out weak but like if I were to get into a fight i'd get my a$$ whooped. LOL

My nutritionist said that when you started losing your hair you were already losing your muscle!! I am losing some hair, but my muscle loss was only 15% when they measured it. My doctor seemed to think that was great!!
I am not really weak, but I have not really got as much energy as I thought I would have by now. Of course, if I would start exercising that would probably help!! If you've lost 97 lbs. already and aren't getting your protein in, that could very well be your problem. I know that keeping up the protein helps you keep your hair and muscle strength!!

I can totally relate to the hair loss, but I have been working out since 3 months before surgery, taking 3 weeks off after surgery, and then right back in the gym. I am losing slower, I believe (88 pounds to date), but am keeping and building muscle. I also believe I am in ketosis, but am going to check with the surgeon when I see him on Monday. The best to you.
