To all Lapbanders. I am still learning. How often are you suppose to get a fill? What is the average time? I am losing slow - but just starting to exercise and to drink the protein. Patricia -9-29-04, (265#) - (243#)

Hi Patricia, My surgery was on 09-27-04.I had my first fill on 01-28-05.I lost 48 lbs prior to the first fill.My weight loss slowed and even gained at points. So I would suggest first check your diet and exercise. Are you being realistic in making good choices and trying to exercise on a regular basis.I would re-evaluate myself and then speak to my Dr.I wouldn't be in a rush if you are being diligent.1-2 lbs per week.Let me know.Thanks. Dear Charlene, Thank you for responding to my message. I live in Sulphur, Louisiana. I had my surgery in Covington, La. I am not near a support group. So I am very happy to talk to you. First, my Dr. never told me how often I was to have a filling. Is there a rule? Concerning my diet, I am not on one. Are we suppose to follow a strict diet like before? I know this sounds crazy. Its just that I thought with the surgery re- stricting my food intake that I would lose! Also, I am just beginning to walk a mile. MY lifestyle seems so busy with family, friends and church. Third, would my age (57) slow things down? Once again, thank you for writting to me. Patricia Reynolds, 267/243/happy but concerned.

Hi Patricia, Well first let me tell you congrats on the walking.I can not get myself on a routine.I will be 48 this year.I really don't think your age aould be a factor.I had my surgery in Burlingame California. Before I was able to do the surgery I had to have a psych evaluation, meet with a nutritionist. Then again with the nutritionist right before surgery.I would not call it a strict diet just making healthy real healthy choices and protein first then veges and last if you still have room/hunger your carb. And WATER WATER WATER!I was told the band helps control our quanity the quality and how often we eat are our choices. An example of my days eating-Breakfast -cereal/non-fat milk Lunch -crackers w/cheese and a yogurt Dinner -usually chicken veges and I try to not eat no carbs. If I am in need of something sweet I will have sugar free fudgecicles, popsicles or fat free pudding.Oh yes I always have 1 cup of coffee in the AM.I also do not have a close support group. There is one at the hospital where I had my surgery but mostly bypass people.Any how hope this helps.Charlene

Dear Charlene, Thankyou for your response. It helps me to see what others are doing. I am now drinking a protein drink for breakfast and am going to try drinking another one for lunch. Then for dinner I hope to have the veg. My problem has been sweets!!!! I am going to try and limit them more. Thankyou for your info. Patricia
