Must Not Compare Myself

Boy, I thought I was doing pretty good today. But somehow it's crept into my mind that I'm not doing as well as some here. I'll be five months post op on the 20th of this month, and I'm down 68 pounds, which is great. Still, I look at others here who have lost 100 or more in 4-6 months, and I find myself lacking. I'm trying to figure out what I've done or haven't done, which is wrong. I shouldn't compare myself! I was 360 when I went into the operating room. The amount I've lost is good. If I don't do this as well or with the same zeal as someone else, it doesn't make me a failure. I need to accept the loss I have so far as being a great accomplishment. Grace 9/20/04 360/292/135

I think your doing great and to be totally honest with you that is the exact reason why I don't like to tell anyone what i have lost so far. I feel bad because then people start feeling bad cause they haven't lost as much as me or someone else whose lost a good amount. I don't think you've done anything wrong. I think that everyone is different and that by the time we all get to our goals or pretty close it will all just seem totally worth however long or short it took. Shannon

Grace you are doing fantabulous! Granted others like me have lost more, but don't forget, we started out bigger. I have lost 130lbs but am just below now where your starting weight was at. I would love to be closer to my goal as you are. Believe it or not, I am completely envious of everyone on this board who do not have to lose as much as me. When I think of how much further I have to go, while everyone else will be hitting their goals, it makes me depressed. You need to focus on your health, how you feel from losing the weight you have and thinking about how much closer you are to the weight u want. Keep up that good work. I am happy for you. Doreen

I tend to get stuck on "how much weight have I lost" often. However, the bigger issue is " how much better I feel!" I try to remind myself of that. Lately, my issue is "when will I get out of these size 20's?" When I should be saying "Wow, A size 20 is so much better than a size 32 (my old size)!" Hang in there. Our bodies are SO much different from each other's and I believe our bodies lose at their own rates! Leslie 312/212/170???

Hey Grace, You're doing swell. Don't beat yourself up. It's not worth it and it'll only make you feel worse. If you want to compare anything, look at who you are today as opposed to who you were before 9/4/04. Hey if it'll make you feel better, my surgery was 1 day before you and I still have not lost 68lbs. I've only lost 64 and I still feel like I'm doing ok. Everyone is different and no two people are going to lose at the same rate or the same way. I really think you're doing good. Keep up the good work. Jenny
