Hi Karen
Good job on your weight loss! I am able to eat meat, but I have to take small bites, eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and it's better if the meat's not too dry. This is a REALLy common side effect of this surgery, many people have this problem. If it is a pretty serious concern for you and you are having trouble getting your protein in, you should discuss it with your surgeon. Good luck!
Love,
Sue

Great job on the 70lb loss.
I had surgery same day as you and have lost 62lbs. I too have a hard time eating meat. Sometimes I can eat and other times it gets stuck right in the chest. I have done well with boca burgers and their spicy chicken patties. Roast or chicken or pork seem to be rough. I do better with ground beef chili is my favorite. I thnk it slowly gets better. Just keep tryin. Mine has improved the more I have tried.
Good Luck
Tina
Early on I had the chicken in chicken soup and it's been good to me. I eat it baked, grilled, in salads, any way however I personally decided that I wasn't going back to red meats, pork and beef specifically since in my Spanish culture we ate/eat lots of that. But one day I decided to try some beef tips and it was very painful to me. Also tried to meatballs - and it was heavy. I find turkey, lowfat ham, chicken great to eat but as Sue Boo said if the meat is to dry it doesn't sit well doesn't matter if it's chicken. Keep on plugging..and keep on testing those foods that you can or can't tolerate.. my surgery was a few days after yours so we're kinda in the same boat - testing phase. Congratulations on your loss!
I am just now able to tolerate small bites of chicken or turkey but they have to be shredded up first. Forget red meat (except for hamburger) it does not agree with me at all. And I still have trouble with pork and ham. I stick with tuna, shrimp and other fish and find I can tolerate that quite well. Congrats on your weight loss, keep up the good work..

Dear Karen,
Congratulations on your weight loss. I am glad you are feeling so good too.
One of the things I just tried has been ham salad. I either grind the ham or put small pieces of it in a small food processor to grind it. I then put celery and green onion and a little red or yellow pepper in the food processor, so the pieces are not too big. I add a little sweet pickle relish and mayo to this and mix by hand in a small bowl. I eat it on a small soft piece of lettuce as a saled or I put a little of it on fat free pringles. The pringles seem to dissolve easily and make this a great horsd'oeuvre.
Meats that are in a stew or soup are easier for me to eat. When I can afford it, I buy a small porterhouse steak for my husband and then I eat a little of the filet mignon side. It goes down easily if medium rare.
Bye for now, Susan
Meat and I are not friends, either Karen!
I find when I do attempt meat, it goes better if I eat something a little watery (like applesauce) with it. I've gotten sick on meat so much, I don't eat it very often.
String cheese, cottage cheese, all kinda beans (including bean soups!) and carb countdown are my protein buddies.
When I get really, really mouth hungry for meat...sometimes I take a bite, chew it up REALLLY good...then spit it out!!!
Take care!
Beth
