For those of you eating 1200 or so a day, has your weight loss been steady? I know it seems fast but since I upped my calories yesterday and today the scale seems to be moving. I am going to wait and weigh myself around Tuesday or Wednesday. That will be a total of 5-6 day's that I have been eating more calories and more protein. Then I will know for sure that that was my problem. Shannon

Hi Shannon, My weight loss has been steady in the sense that I have lost every single week (I weigh every monday morning, first thing, on a doctor's scale at my mom and dad's house.) As you know, I am a slowpoke. I was losing 10 lbs a month every month after the first month, and now it's down to about 7 lbs a month. I've read a lot about "starvation mode" and many experts say there is no such thing. But lots of people do feel their bodies hang onto the weight if their calories fall too low. The best way to calculate how many calories to eat is to use a bmr calculator (different than bmi). Here is one: www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ This will tell you how many calories your body burns when completely at rest, according to your height, weight, age and sex. If you enter in your goal weight, height, age and sex, you will know how many calories you need to consume to weigh that. Any exercise is a bonus and can be added on to your caloric requirement (don't overestimate your exercise!) Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions. ~Sue My bmr is 1258.65, which means if I weigh 115 (remember I'm 5'1") I must eat 1258 calories to maintain that weight, a little more if I exercise.

Shannon, My weight loss has been very steady until the last 3 weeks. I have lost about 12 pounds a month until just recently. I am right on target with my dr's weight loss chart. Now I am supposed to taper down to lose between 5 and 8 pounds a month. I am definitely on a plateau--desperately waiting for it to break. How about you? How many cals are you eating?? -KT Sue, Love the BMR website. Very helpful. -KT

I had only been at about 800 per day, and my 4 month RD appt she said I HAVE to increased to at least 1000 and push for 1200... I'm not getting in enough, and stall for weeks at a time. URGH!!!! All my life I've been trying to eat LESS!!! Anyway, now that I'm exercising more, I need more calories to keep me going... so, I'm pushing for 1000 per day.

I never watch my calories. Only thing that I watch are carbs. Those are evil.
