Hi everyone! I will tell you my status as of now and I will explain my problem. Im Amy I had open Rny on 9-22-04 and I have thus far lost 61 lbs! WOOHOO!!!! I am feeling so much better and I have more energy and I am so happy that I did this for myself as well as my son so I could see him grow to a ripe old age! My problem is this. I still have not gotten a pattern down for eating and drinking so that I get all I need in each day. I write down what I eat, I have tried many schedules and things like that so I can not think about it just eat what is on the schedule but I am having trouble eating. My main problem is that I am NEVER hungry. I force myself to eat because I know I need it not to mention I wont lose any weight if I dont eat enough. I am now pretty good about the water drinking and getting the fluids I need but I dont know what to do about the food thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Love Amybee

Amybee... I have a pattern down...kind off...I try to eat my meals about 5 hours apart...however...I never feel hungry either...also I never did before surgery. Mayo clinic requires a class before surgery about weight loss, and I took it like a good girl, but when I asked the group about what to do...they thought I was strange(not saying we are). My dietician from the class to me to try eating in the morning and then waiting till 12 and see if I feel hungry, if not wait another 20 min...and then eat, cause you need to.... Are you sure you know how you feel when you get hungry...that was the biggest thing for me...I still have problems with it...although I know my hands shake slightly...cause my blood sugar drops. Then I know.... Good Luck...sorry I rambled...maybe something in there will help.... April

hi amybee, i have the same motivation for the surgery (my 22 month old son) and the same problem - never hungry. it's good that you're doing the fluids. what about your protein? my surgeon/nutritionist aren't so concerned about not being hungry now - just need to get in the protein and fluids. i work on getting my protein in thru food as much as possible then supplement with carb countdown or something easy. i am not hungry ever. make myself eat, like cheese or something. i used to eat eggs, tuna and other stuff that i just don't want to eat anymore. i think this will pass. susan

I do really good with my water intake, my issues are the protein. I have a hard time with most meats still. I bought a protein mix but it blows and I try doing the isopure powder in water but I am not all that fond of it. So as soon as I can get back to GNC I am buying me some grape and orange isopure ready made drinks. I can tolerate those without any problems and 1 drink has 40grams of protein so that should give me a real boost. My dh also went out and bought me those new carb countdown lowfat yogurt smoothie's from my local grocery store. 4 carbs, 100 calories and 13g protein. Along with my new Low Sugar oatmel which has 4 grams of protein that will give me 57 and that isn't all I will consume in a day unless I am having one of those really don't want to eat days. I am hoping that boost's my weight loss again so I can actually start seeing that scale move. Sorry for going off topic but once I start rambling it is hard for me to stop. LOL Shannon

Hi Amy: In the beginning I didn't feel hungry at all and if I kept my mind off it I probably wouldn't notice that I have to eat, but I do give it a constant effort because if you don't eat - that will cause other problems. In terms of protein shakes - my doc said - "lay off" so I don't have that but he did order that I eat 3 meals, 5oz and my fluids are 30 min to an 1hr apart and I try to stick to that regime. Should I fail to lose sufficient weight then I can say to him - I followed your orders!! I think - or I should think that on the norm everyone eats at a minimum of 3 meals a day with breaks of water...so if you can at least remember to eat those 3 important meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner - then you should cover all the bases. Good luck to you.

HI AMYBEE, MY SURGERY WAS 9/23/04. I'VE LOST 84 LBS AS OF TODAY. I WORK FULL TIME (NURSE INSTRUCTOR) AND HAVE HAD 2 STRICTURES AND AN ULCER, ALL FINE NOW. I, TOO, AM RARELY HUNGARY,BUT I WANT TO GET MY PROTEINS IN. ACTUALLY STARCH GOES DOWN MUCH EASIER, BUT I KNOW THE 4 RULES, SO: BREAKFAST- I TRY TO EAT 1/2 A LIGHT YOGURT AND THEN PORCEED TO DRINK WATER OR DECAFF TEA UNTIL 1/2 BEFORE LUNCH (AROUND 12:30) I BRING LUNCH EVERY DAY, ALTHOUGH I'M NOT HUNGARY I TRY TO BRING SOMETHING I LIKE EX: I MAKE TUNA SALAD AND HAVE IT WITH A SLICE OF NONWHITE BREAD. I TRY TO EAT A LITTLE FRUIT AFERWARDS (APPLESAUCE,APPLE,MANGO OR A COUPLE OF HOURS BEFORE DINNER. I,M NOT HUNGARY BEFORE 7PM, WHICH PLEASES MY HUBBY BECAUSE HE LIKES TO EAT LATER ANYWAY, AND EVEN THEN I CAN'T EAT VERY MUCH, SO I JUST STOP AFTER A FEW BITES, TAKE MY SUPPLEMENTS THROUOUT THE DAY AND I'M FINE. FEEL GREAT, SANDY
