September 14 and i am 52 down............I have been reading some have lost 80-100 is that the average?
I weight 270 at the time of surgery
Anita
Well I've said this a million times and I still feel like it is true, I think the higher you are when you start out the faster you lose larger portions and vice versa for the less you weigh. However, that isn't a scientific guess, just my hypothesis. Your getting very close to 199 and that's great. I haven't lost any in almost 2 weeks and I want to scream. I think my scale is evil and should be thrown out the window but then i'd miss it to much. One thing I have noticed is that my inches are going down right now. Normally that would be a comfort but I am going through a mini depression so really I am not one to listen to anything I say.
If I were to listen to myself I would keep telling me that I have lost a great amount of weight. At least I am not gaining. I would never have gotten this far on my own. I look better, they say, I usually feel better. My clothing is getting bigger and bigger on me....
I am not sure what the average is here. I look back in the July and August boards and some of them have lost the same amount as some of us who had surgery in September. Also, I have read a ton of profiles. In them i've read about people who've lost slowly and were pretty discourage. As you scroll down and read more and more of their posts it seems that eventually they get to their goal, usually 1 year or closer and at the end are pretty happy.
I think your doing great and I am sure your looking great. Keep up the wonderful work and keep your head up. ~~~HUGS~~~

Hi Anita..I know how you feel...I had my surgery the same day as you...and i'm down 56 lbs...was 258 on surgery day...but I asked my Dr. about it..and he says i'm right on target...and that the heavier you are the faster you loose the weight initially...but he stressed that I will probably not have as many skin issues with the slower weight loss...so at least that's one thing to be greatfull for huh?...I began this at 272...so being 70 lbs lighter is a blessing..and really..I mean when is the last time you lost this amount of weight this fast? Just be patient...it's gonna happen for both of us...
Hi Anita,
I have the same problem. I started out at about 300 lbs and am only down about 60 pounds. I lose only about 1 pound a week, and this week the scale actually went up a few pounds!!!
It also very discouraging to me that I haven't (or won't) lost the 80-100 pounds I thought I would by my 6 month anniversary. I have a very big fear that I won't make my goal to lose another 100 pounds (yes 100!!). In fact, some days I wonder if I will be the one who fails...
So, know that you're not alone.

You hit upon what I have been feeling "will I be the one that will fail"
My goal is 90 pounds and it is more difficul****ching the pounds melt away for some and I am going so slowly ....
It has never been about the outer expierance to me but to feel better .
Thanks for your reply

yup, i'm a "club turtle" member too! down 58 since 9/3 surgery date. There's a range, and we may be at the slower end of the range, but like Shannon said, most folks end up continuing to lose over a years time or more. You're doing great! Hang in there, if we stick to the rules we'll reach our goals eventually!
Love,
Sue

I'm right there with you. I've lost 60 lbs with a surgery date of 9/14/2004.
Now, here's the kicker, I have weighed 203 for FOUR WEEKS now! I haven't lost any weight. I got the depo provera birth control shot and then got a stomach ulcer (that was quieted by eating), and I haven't lost any weight in a month!
