anyone missing food???
Hello Joyce,
Congrats on your 70lbs...gone forever! As for missing food, well i'd be lying if I said I haven't missed some things, like cake, pies, ice cream, candies, steak, chips, dips, etc.
But on the other hand, not eating that stuff i too am down over 70lbs since 9/17. I know that having the WLS had to be a life altering experience, and, we all were suffering the same, and STILL we came to the right decision.
I found that sugar free icecream, ice pops, and the like are just as enjoyable and a heck of a lot healthier! I started this journey at 331, and my goal is 180-200. I am almost half way there and after only four months!
Keep up the good work and keep the faith, all else will fall into place.

Straight up answer - yes, at times. Every once in a while, I wish I had my "old stomach and appetite" so I could go to a Chinese buffet and enjoy. But, as soon as I think it, or even say it, I let it go. Instead, I choose to concentrate on the 81 pounds I've lost in just over 4 months, the way I'm feeling, and the comments others are saying to me. Plus, I had a big meeting at work which required me to go out and buy something nice that actually fit me...and the blazer I bought was 5 sizes smaller than what I used to wear. So, maybe I will continue to think about my old eating habits at times, but I will stay focused because everything is paying off...in so many ways. Maybe that's what the fortune cookie would have said anyway
The best to you!
hi, i'm 4 months out too. i have a love of cooking and this , believe it or not has helped me to deal with food, i'm cooking for everyone at work and my family and giving it all away. early on i started converting recipes in my head and writing them down for later on and this seemed to help me too in a weird way.i was craving guacamole sp? for the whole time since i had surgery. i finally had 1/2 t of it to see if i could tolerate it and it was
great, but, oddly enough i no longer crave it. the social aspect i cant help with, there just isnt a sub..at least i havnt found one. but, i havent gone to any restaurants or out to eat either. i've had to find other things to do with my time but, your right it is really hard. kimberly
Congrats on the weight loss, your doing great.
I don't really because most of the foods I try don't taste the same way. There are say's when I am trying to figure out what to eat and get frustrated because nothing is tasting right. I just try to keep my mind on the good things to eat. I also tell myself that I can't eat this or that cause my surgeon said I can't. I guess there are times, like I loved pizza but when I tried it agian after surgery it didn't taste the same. Maybe I can thank my taste buds for disliking everything. Makes it easier not to eat the things I shouldn't.

Hi Joyce- I have lost 86 pounds and what I am discovering is how much of my "social" life was food- I am currently in the middle of moving from Germany to Hawaii and everytime I talk about it with someone the next thing out of their mouth is "Oh let me take you out to lunch"- I just laugh and say- Well that will be a cheap date since I don't eat much!!!!
Realize when I get to Hawaii I am going to have to find another social "thing" to do with people..... Any ideas? Victoria
Hi Joyce,
My answer is definitely YES! It sounds weird but I really miss the serving size. Like the big plate of spaghetti or the buffets- filling up my plate, and going back for more.
But I really try to focus on the big picture- my weight loss so far and my goals.
I will try some of the foods, like the spaghetti, or gonig to eat at a restraunt just to get over the craving, but most of the time end up getting sick.
Hang in there, you're doing great!!!
Hi Joyce,
i am 4 months out since 1-9-05 and i've lost 94 lbs so far. When it comes to food, my mind plays tricks on me. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, literally. I miss things like sweets, which is something that i didn't eat much of before. As for eating out socially, i have not stopped going to restaurants with my friends. I usually order off of the childs menu, or order something that i can eat and that goes down well. I always have left-overs. I just know my limits and i make much better choices now. If i have a craving, i satisfy it. My tastebuds have changed drastically, but that is a good thing. Good luck to you and keep up the good work.

Hi Joyce, thanks for this question
I have been able to eat nearly everything, in very small portions, so it's not individual foods I miss. I feel like dining in general is a "non-event" now, anti-climactic, lol. It's a bit stressful if there's too many choices, like at a party. At a restaurant, the eating part is over so soon, it just doesn't sound that fun to me. I actually prefer to eat to live, rather than live to eat these days (who would have thought!) Too many yummy things in front of me to choose from IS a bummer, but I'm perfectly happy being at home and making a healthy decision of what to eat, and filling up from that.

Oh and listen to this miraculous tale... my aunt and uncle came to visit from montreal this week and brought a huge box of baklava for my family (they always do this, it's not deliberate sabotage...) Everyone enjoyed a piece and I packaged the rest and GAVE IT AWAY TO MY FRIENDS and went to the gym with a smile on my face.
I can eat pretty much anything, so I really don't miss "individual" foods either. I don't eat carbs much because I am allergic to wheat and a LOT of high carb foods contain wheat. But, I got used to that over a year ago when I found out about my allergy. I still go to restaurants to eat... I usually just eat off someone else's plate!!
