protein powder question
I am wondering if anyone buys the plain protein powder? I am finding that I can't get the amount of protein in I need a day. I also don't always have the money to buy the protein drinks so I figured that if I buy the plain powder I can mix it into my breakfast etc. I shop at GNC so if anyone has purchased their from that store please give me a price idea.
Thanks
Shannon
Hi Shannon,
I bought unflavored protein powder (Designer Whey) at Trader Joe's (don't know if they have that in your area.) I think I paid about 12.99 for a typical size can of it. In the early days after my surgery I mixed it into soups, light fruit juice and ice blended into a smoothie, etc. You can still taste it in there, but it isn't too bad. You can also try adding tofu to your soups or foods, to jack up your protein a bit, also egg whites can be added to many foods.
Good luck!

I but the unjury unflavored protein and mix it in a lot of things to get my protein. I cannot taste it but maybe I am used to it.I but the Vanilla also to make my shakes with. I use it in Car Countdown milk for that extra protein punch and it tastes like snow cream to me. Even my finace likes the tatse of it!
I use liquid proteinex. It cost 23.65 for 16 ounces. 2 T or 1 ounce=15 grams. I do 8 T for 60 grams in 20 oz. of lemonade Crystal Light but you could do less. I just like getting the extra protein in. It is kind of expensive but it is the only protein I can tolerate. You can get at bariatricadvantage.com
Designer Whey is anywhere from 12-20.00, but for 14.00 you can get the same size container of Advantage EAS, and it has no gritty taste at all! You get 22g of protein per scoop, and the vanilla tastes like slightly sweetned milk (I use water). The chocolate tastes like YooHoo, but no where near as sweet.
