Hi Terri, I guess I would be considered behind too, compared to some. I have only lost 52 lbs. since surgery. For the most part, I'm doing everything right. I just have to work on exercise becoming a habit....I've been exercising sporadically. I recently went in for my 3 mo. post-op appointment & the bariatric nurse said I was doing just fine. So, I guess I'm trying not to worry about it much. The scale hasn't stopped. I'm just going along slowly but surely. Keep in mind that although we all have WLS in common, there are still differences. We all have different bodies....some people's metabolisms will be higher than others & that will help to make a difference. We also have to keep in mind BMI's....someone with a higher BMI starting out will more than likely drop weight faster than someone with a lower BMI....Oh, & then the surgery types!! Even with the RNY, someone who had it done distal will lose weight faster than the proximal patients. So, just keep working hard and try not to compare yourself to others! If you really are concerned about being behind, talk to your surgeon or bariatric nurse about it. Good luck to you!! Jill

Hello WLS twin, I haven't seen you around much, hope all is well. I think you "LIGHTWEIGHTS" lose slower in general, but you are losing so don't worry too much. Food diaries are a great tool for taking a honest look at your calorie intake. Take care, Post sometime on the Cali board to keep us informed.

The biggest thing to remember is when was the last time you lost over 50 pounds in just 4 months? You are doing great! It's so hard to not compare yourself with others, but you are an individual. Celebrate YOUR success - you are doing awesome! Love and hugs, Donna

I guess I'm on the slow side too ( 54 lbs ) But I'm still very happy with the loss because I feel good I really do not feel like I'm doing with out anything. I still can only eat 3 oz at a time so I guess I'm a slow but steady looser !!!! Laura 238/184/135

I'm behind too. I've lost almost 60 lbs. . and that's it. In fact, I've kind of avoided the boards b/c I start feeling inadequate when I read how successful others have been. I start thinking that I am somehow screwing this up, and everyone is doing it right. . except me! But then I think about how many challenges I've had to overcome health wise since my surgery. In addition to have multiple sclerosis, I've now been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. And my tests for lupus antibodies have come back +++ too. My body is in major upheaval right now, and I just have to let things happen naturally and remember the wise words of someone here (sorry, can't remember who) "this is a journey. . not a race!" And as long as I make it to the end of my weight loss journey, it doesn't matter how long it took me to get there.

Hey Terri; We're twins - I had my surgery on the 28th, too. My doc said one week during my initial post-op visits that people's weight loss varies from 3-5 pounds per week. I was depressed because that week I had only lost 3 pounds. He stated that some people have such success that others feel that losing 3 pounds a week is insufficient, but that's just not true. Be proud of what you have accomplished! We're proud of you...You are doing great. I mean, we're 13 weeks out? At 3 pounds a week, that'd give us 39 pounds, so you're on the higher end of losing! Right? I think also a lot depends on how much fat you really had to begin with based on your height. For instance, a person who weighs close to 400 pounds and is 5'2" tall can lose 100 pounds a lot faster than someone who is 250 and 5'9" tall. Initially they have a **LOT** more fat to lose. Personally, the one thing I found that really helps me...exercise. As much as I hate it, I have gone from losing 2-3 pounds per week to losing 4-5. Also, upping the water has helped. But, that's just my thing. I hope you have a healthy and blessed 2005, Trudi
