New journey together?

Hi, I've decided to pursue surgery but am only beginning the whole process. I'd like to be in touch with someone (or a few someones) who are in the same boat. I love reading the profiles but feel like I'm so far behind most people - surgery could be a year away. I don't want to become discouraged and give up! It's always easier with a friend (and all mine are skinny -- rats!). Anyone else feel similar? Shannon

Hi Shannon I had my RNY three months ago and if you ask me I will tell you WITHOUT HESITATION---"I would do it again in a heartbeat" I have NO regrets and feel this was next to quitting smoking 17 years ago ANOTHER best decision I ever made! Pursue your dream, good luck with your decision, only YOU can decide what is best for you. Good Luck! Hugs Marianne

Shannon, Two thoughts, First It's a journey, not a race. Second, WLS is a tool, and a major lifestyle choice, you need to decide if this is a tool you want to choose. Spend time and make an informed choice. I choose surgery after many months of thought and research. But it isn't a choice for everyone. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Good Luck, Robyn 277/215/140

Well for me it was the right decision. I have tried and failed most of my life to lose weight. For me it was the best decision I could have ever made. I am almost at the 4 month mark and down 121 pounds. If it weren't for the surgery I would probably be close if not over 400 pounds. Now I am planning a future with more children and less of me. I would never tell a person to do it because it is a personal choice and I wouldn't want anyone to do it just because I did. I just say do what you feel is the best thing for you to do. Shannon

learn everything there is to learn about this surgery. know all the statistics, all the risks, and all the benefits. This is not easy. You will be discouraged. Others won't want you to go through with it. Learn what your insurance carrier will cover. Learn about financing if you need to. Understand for the first few weeks you are going to regret it... but 2 - 3 months after you will love yourself for doing it. If you are single, this is going to affect your dating - you are going to be a very picky, but cheap date! If you are in a committed relationship - then there is the question - are they doing it too? If not, the different eating habits can be difficult. I know if my husband and I didn't do it together, I would have had a very hard time doing it alone. You WILL have to adopt a more active lifestyle. When you come out of surgery and recover from the incisions and staples.. it's game time. There are no passive avenues to healthy here. This surgery is a kick in the butt and a form of forced willpower if you let it be. Good Luck. If you have questions or decide to go for it I'll help you with what information I can. Christina
