This questions really applies to women who have there hair relaxed/permed. Most have experienced hair breaking off when new growth is coming in before you have a touch-up.So it happening now wouldn't be considered hair loss, would it? Isn't hair loss when your hair is actually falling out from your scalp?

Hi Dawn, I used to work as a hairdresser, so I will take a shot at your question. In general, things that are going on systemically in your body would cause hair to fall out from the root. If there is external breakage, it is generally caused by external causes such as perm, color, straightening i.e. chemical damage. An exception to this might be if you are on a strong medication or have major changes going on with your body (wls may be included in that or may not) then sometimes your body will stop producing oils in a normal way, and your hair and skin can become extremely dry, leading to hair breakage. If you think that you are losing hair due to breakage, then the only thing you can do is give it a break from chemicals and condition. If it is falling out from the root... (which by the way, we are entering the time period where that happens, I know mine sure is!) then I've some try zinc supplements or Nioxin shampoo, but in general I heard the best thing to do is wait it out and it does stop falling out in a few months. Hope this helps. ~Sue
