my 3-month checkup

had my 3 month appt with my surgeon and nutritionist today. they took blood work and i'm anxious to see what they have to say. one thing is that i notice on the boards stuff and i ask them about it and they don't agree. for example, people were saying we can't absorb b12's in pill form, that it should be taken sublingual (under the tongue). my surgeon doesn't agree. that's interesting to me. so i'll just continue the way i have been taking it. i officially have lost 54 pounds since surgery. i was measured and i've lost 2 inches in my neck, 2 inches in my waist (although i know that i was measured in a different place than the first time but the nurse wouldn't listen to me), plus 7 inches in my hips. feels great. they have a posting that says by 3 months people who started at: 200 - 300 should lose 20 - 35 pounds 300 - 400 should lose 35 - 55 pounds i started at 325. i wondered if it was a little conservative, but i feel great about my loss now. i had thought i was a little slow. my surgeon is pleased with me. susan

Hay Thank's for the neat info. I am also 3mo out but then I guess we all are . I like the numbers that your doc told you that mean's I am doing good. My dr didnt say to much But I am losing slow I think. You know maybe we are not losing slow it is the few that lose fast that make us feel slow. We will get there in OUR time. Thanks for the post michelle hall

Susan, Thanks so much for you posting. I had never seen a weight loss chart . It is incouranging -49 for me. The Vit B is certainly all over the place with recommendation. There is a blood test to see if you are ok on the B12 absorption Good Luck. Are you able to hold more food and does it scare you. Hugs DOlores

hi dolores, i am holding a lot less food and i don't know why. i made that little rollup i posted, slice of cheese & slice of turkey and had one bite and that was it. i'm noticing we are all different about food and that we all are having cycles of being able to eat or not eat, and all sorts of stuff we can or can't eat. don't sweat it. it's the long run you're aiming for! susan

Susan, Congratulations on your 54 pounds lost! I never got around to measuring myself so I don't know my inches. Maybe I would feel like I was making progress if I had measured myself. Oh well. As far as the B-12 goes I heard that it is absorbed best in the following order: 1. Injection (which I do every month) 2. Inhalation through your nose once a week 3. Sublingual every day I find the shot is easy and I don't have to worry about forgetting daily or putting yet another thing in my mouth. This may sound strange since I HATE needles and cringe every time I have a shot. But they really don't hurt much... just a little pinch in the butt and off to bed I go... No soreness in the morning. I was told that nighttime was the best time to get the injection and I believe they were right. I've been told by a few people that had surgery that I may be losing too fast, but I think it will go at the pace it wants to go. I have lost 62 pounds since surgery and 87 since the shakes (2 week pre-op fasting). I'm thrilled with the numbers but I don't think it looks like I have lost that much. 87 pounds is alot but I think my pictures only show progress in my face. Funny, I thought I would be a 14/16 at 87 pounds gone.
